Have a look around the West Kirby website David (if you haven’t already done so) – there’s a lot of information there and the guys that run the association are very obliging.
Four blade propeller and the universal air intake – a Mk IX.
Most likely candidate is TB544, one of the several ‘Unmarked Silver Spitfires’ that circulated around various RAF intake/training establishments in the 1950’s and for some years at RAF Padgate

One of the group issued to No 4 School of Technical Training at St Athan in 1948…and Padgate is not too far from West Kirby. It would be nice to pin it down exactly wouldn’t it! Any idea what became of it Mark?
Its interesting that MK732 & ML427 would have been at St Athan at the same time as TB544 and they managed to survive.
It is stored in the South of England – together with several others – by a private individual. We are in contact with the owner and all will become clear in our forthcoming new book. Patience is a virtue!

BTW – I’ve started to build up our website as a prelude to the book being published, early days but I will soon have a comprehensive photo gallery and searchable database on the site. Feedback always welcome.

Is the Fairey Battle still there?
Very good question Geoff. It’s been ages since I visited the museum. 1977 To be precise!
The Battle is at Rochester being restored by the Medway APS

Cambridge University Library, Grange Road, Cambridge.
Alconbury has an F-5E which I reckon must be the only one in the country, where is the A-10 parked.
The F-5E is a replica built by Specialised Mouldings about 20 years ago. The A-10 is inside the base but visible on Google Earth.
Phantom inside the base at Coningsby – visible from the road.
F-100 on the gate at Lakenheath (plus F-4, F-16 and F-111 inside the base … not counting the pole-sitting Spitfire FSM which has always puzzled me!)
A-10 inside the base at Alconbury.
Will it be at Legends? :dev2:
Its interesting to note that BL628 and AB803 were both transferred from No.401 Sqdn to 308FS on 5 August 1942 and both moved on the following week to No. 167 Sqdn at Castletown, Caithness.
As the 308th were based at Kenley from 2 August – 28 August 1942 one wonders why these transfers were made, both aircraft were only on charge for seven days and presumably did not see any action?
A third aircraft, BM481, left No.401 Sqdn on the same day as BL628 & AB803 and was assigned to No.317 (Wilenski) Sqdn which was based at Northolt at the time.
I think that the USAF Aerobatic Team – The Thunderbirds – may have a public museum display at Nellis AFB which is just outside Las Vegas.
A further whisper in my ear advises that Neil Williams ferried it to Strathallan in 1975 from West Malling, so we reckon October/November 1975…!
(Thanks Ian!)

Your first guess was closer! It was taken in June 1969, I was on my way to Lympne to fly to Beauvais in a Skyways Avro 748 and then catch the coach on to Paris to visit the Paris Air Show. Seems like yesterday!
[QUOTE=mantog]how about this one?QUOTE]
Tony Agar’s HJ711 🙂
While we are waiting for RS712 year of movement, how about identifying a bit newer photo.
VR796 in Bob Jens’ hangar at Vancouver 🙂
(Should have cropped out his Spit 14!)
RS712 before it went to Strathallen.
Yep, and the year? :diablo:
