West Malling
Spot on Steve 🙂
Now we just need to know which one and when!
Plymouth, 1982?
Nope and nope I’m afraid!
RS709 or RS712 (not TA634 as it doesnt have the tail guard by the tailwheel)
I would guess RS709 just prior to flying to the USA to join the CAF. Benson?
Nice piccie by the way 🙂
Bruce
Well spotted, that’s narrowed it down to one of two!
Not Benson, not before flying to the USA! 🙂
Don’t have the Tomtit in colour as G-AFTA but here’s G-ABMR in colour at Old Warden in the 1970s.

and one of its younger siblings …

Anybody care to speculate which one this is, where I took it and when?

Do you happen to know if the Spitfire assembly hangars are still standing? Desford was No.8 Dispersal Factory and it was where the Leicester-built Spitfires were flown from.
Quite right. 🙂
I seem to recall seeing the Tomtit at Biggin Hill BoB in Sept 1957, being flown by Neville Duke. The Bristol Fighter was there too. I could barely afford B/W let alone colour.
Mark
B/W … we were so poor I could only afford a pencil & paper!
Yes – those of us that visited Old Warden regularly in the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s will recall that G-AMRK was originally painted as “K8032”. I have a shot of the Tomtit as G-AFTA taken in October 1967 but unfortunately only in black & white so I can’t post it on this thread on two counts!
I think this has been discussed before …..

Growing up in Coventry in the 1950’s we didn’t have to dig – we played on the “bomb sites”. I do remember when the foundations for a new building were dug on one such site (in Craven Street) it exposed the cellars of the houses which had stood there. Another time I nearly s**t myself when we uncovered a dodgy-looking cylindrical metal object … until we realised it was an old vacuum cleaner!
Try holding down the CTRL key whilst clicking the link – that will sometimes get around the pop-up blocked problem 🙂
There was never an A-10 gate guard at Bentwaters……..or any other gate guard either 🙂

Absolutely true … but I think there is one inside the base at Alconbury to this day … try Google Earth!
Dunno if it’ll be at Legends but here it is (was?) at Hatfield on 7 July 1973.
