So you are picard?
If yes then let’s make it simple, did Vianney Riller claim any of this?
I want a straight and direct answer
Do you really need to ask? Picard made it up. On the last claim: first, the g-demand system limits the Rafale to 5.5g 20′ AoA in ST1 or ST2 carrying heavy loads. The heavier the load, the g demand system will only allow so much AoA or available g. That, besides the fact that Picard’s claim is laughable on the face of it when compared to known aircraft performance while carrying such a heavy load out.
In fact, all those 31 pilots claiming they would take an F-35 over F-15, are fake, too.
I believe two (3) were former F-15C pilots. Yes, I’m sure they were faking when they chose the F-35 over the F-15C in certain BFM set ups but not others. Or maybe they know that the F-35 has advantages over the F-15C that you can’t fathom in your “wing loading/ sustained turn/ BFM is only about hard turns” comprehension of air combat.
Sparrow missile? Why we would have used that crap when we have Aspide?
I know right? The Aspide was SO different from contemporary Sparrow variants produced (F and M). Sarcasm aside, the Aspide was a major improvement over early U.S.,Sparrow variants. Sparrow gets a bad reputation from the poor performance in Vietnam. The later ones had little commonality other than name and airframe.
Next time, note that the following is from Picard’s blog at the top of the post so we can ignore the information posted as a lunatic’s drivel.
Then again, I think this thread is perfect place for Picard analysis, worthless.
As I’ve no need for a fighter aircraft in my commute, I’ll stick with my Honda Accord… Better gas mileage.
Does any of these warrant an immediate involvement by the US? The US seems to be very absent from Africa when random tribes commit genocide on other tribes. Weird huh
I think every nation that had the means to intervene is complicit in not doing enough to prevent the events in Rwanda and elsewhere in Africa. That is not really a valid complaint to levy against the US alone.
Not to mention, while it is ignored in the western media and largely unknown to the masses, SOCOM has been fighting for years in West and Central Africa to eliminate terror group offshoots that are popping up all over, and training, transporting local forces.
Wut!!? pls elaborate, how exactly is this McNamara’s fault?
He was and is one of the most inteligent Defence chief US ever had.The Vietnam war killed his Career for sure, but what could he really do.. he with the rest of administration got sucked into the war, and there was no easy exit.
e.
This is a first. Intelligent? Yes, he was. That and arrogance to match. McNamara deserves to shoulder a considerable amount of blame for the Vietnam fiasco. His approach of statistical analysis of warmaking is held as a prime example of how not to conduct such a campaign. His” x number of bombs dropped, y number of dead bodies”= victory was a primary reason that the government continued to lie to itself about the possibility of victory. His other great failure was convincing Johnson to use a gradual escalation of the war. 550,000 troops in country would have been far more effective in 1966 than in ’68. Not to mention the bombing campaign.
He is widely regarded as one of the worst defense secretaries in the history of the US ( coupled with a more recent one).
He really is very grumpy about Typhoon and Storm Shadow!
Old post, but I find it suprising how many people have not picked up on De Briganti’s purpose over at Defense-Aerospace. Every editor’s note trashes the Typhoon and F-35, which leave what aircraft as the benefactor of positive press?
While reading that, I realized I made an error. The Su-24M had the kaira-24 laser designator earlier than I thought ( thought they were not fitted until the late 80’s). So, disregard point on F-111F. Oops!
And in no way am I defending the US actions in Iraq, or being an apologist.
But considering my profession, hearing people constantly comment ” the U.S. created x or y terror group” makes me groan aloud.
The factors that led to the conditions that allow Islamist extremists to flourish are so numerous, extensive, and not attributable to any one nation.
Not at all, but it is not as simple as A led to B. Islamic extremist groups were on the rise, expanding, becoming more violent years before the first US soldier stepped foot in Iraq or Afghanistan. There is no doubt that the Iraq misadventure was a disaster that led to conditions for extremists to flourish. Are you so sure these groups would still not exist somewhere else?
Why was Al Qaeda able to set up in the failed state of Afghanistan in the first place? Get my point? The factors that led to the current Islamist wars have many fathers. Some players find it more comfortable to assign blame to the US as absolution.
ISIS was a direct result of US actions. Yes or No?
Please if history was that easy. Should we assign blame to the British for combining hostile tribes in the borders of modern Iraq? The French for wholesale arming and training of the Iraqi army (tanker war, invasion of Kuwait), Hence US troop on Saudi soil that led to Osama creating Al Qaeda? Or the Russian heavy handed crushing of the Chechens (who are the most feared and loyal members of Al Qaeda and ISIS?). Assigning blame from one action creating another is pointless.
Bullcrap. Who supported the “moderate opposition”, who trained & supplied ISIS in weapons?
Nic
Whatever website you get your news and information from….. You need to stop going there. ISIS grew partly out AQI surviors, so no the U.S. did not create or train ISIS despite the anti-US propaganda that states otherwise.
The U.S. did arm tribal groups that were part of the Sunni awakening, some of which did switch allegiance to ISIS when they began to overrun northern Iraq, some fought ISIS and still are.
I think one could make a strong case that your country is doing more for sustaining ISIS with fresh recruits and money.
So as i understand the current performance of F-35 at Mach 0.8 and 15.000 feet is 4.95 G sustain ?
No, that was an earlier, heavier, test configuration. No reason it would be worse than that. But I doubt there will be any more information released about the sustained g performance with the aircraft entering service.
McNamara was a fool, there is no doubt there. However, his push for the F-111 over continued production of the F-105 was not an error. His push to standardize the F-111 across the military was a huge mistake, no doubt about that. The F-111 does not get the credit it deserves. It was the singular best strike fighter in the world for 20 years (sorry the Su-24 did not have laser designation and precision weapons capability, the “F” did). The F-111D had the world’s first digital bombing navigation system (note to the SVP-24) when it worked. There were huge design flaws- it could really only carry two LGB and still have full low level sprint capability. But, the F-111F and D might have been the most survivable strike aircraft from the 1970’s to late 1980’s. One could argue that the F-111 was as effective as the F-117. There were few fighters that could catch it on the deck, and paired with the EF-111, it made a difficult deep strike/interdiction target.
