st because you get a $1000 drone from a toy shop does not translate it to weaponisable platform that can drop bomb 50 km away , These are well planned , cordinated and professional organised attack from COTS hardware
They did just that with the quadcopter above, turned a toy into a weapon. Zero modification required. And yes, if you had read my links, they can. Takes little to turn a homemade UAV into a weapon:
50 Km distance?= gas powered model airplane engine- no battery power flight time restriction
guidance?= GPS waypoint unit, programmable with up to 500 waypoints. Can fly without user input, even change altitudes.
Drop bombs?- servo units, easy. Unclear which drones are dropping the modified mortar shells. If the small quadcoptor ones, it is as easy pressing a button to activate servo. What about the large model airplane ones? All you need is someone within a few km of target area with remote (does not need to fly drone as it is GPS guided), they may even simply program servo to release at certain GPS waypoint.
ISIS has been doing this for a long time, this isn’t new:
https://nypost.com/2017/03/16/war-against-isis-now-involves-shuttlecock-grenades-dropped-by-drones/
..I mean its not that some one thinks attacking a Russian air base with 15 swap of drone that are sophisticated enough to drop bomb is an over night idea , mission planning and dry runs must have been done
again had you read thread, this drone tactic has been used for years by ISIS. Don’t you think it’s possible they’ve improved on techniques?
Again, mosul drones:

his still does not prove US or Co-oilation allies have their hand in this and it will be difficult to prove either way
What can be proven beyond a doubt is that the Russian official claiming that the US is behind the drone strikes due to so-called “technological sophistication” of parts like an eight dollar altimeter, is either an idiot, or trying desperately to show some collusion between US and this attack. Just like the video game ISIS convoy, it is embarrassingly flimsy and insults the intelligence of the target audience.
P8 flying between Hmeymim and Tartus?
Besides all that, RC-135 and P-8 have been flying off the Syrian coast regularly for quite a while. Exactly how strong could a correlation between a drone strike and regular monitoring flights be? As odds are, there is a US aircraft off the coast at any given instant. Everyone in the Russian military and Government knows this, so why say there was a P-8 there as a “strange coincidence”.
The RC-135U are doing ELINT on Russian Radar systems, comms, and the P-8’s likely as well besides Maritime Surveillance. If you look at the radar tracks of previous reports, they at least 12 nm off coast of Lebanon and parallel the coast a bit farther out in international airspace from Syria.
Most importantly, What the h#ll would a P-8 allegedly do to help a drone attack? It’s a fixed target, a pair of eyes and GPS coordinates would be just as useful as SAR mapping. Just nonsensical.
the US was accused of delivering drones to militants to attack Russian bases
US Spy Aircraft Flew Between Russian Bases in Syria During Drone Attack – MoD
Total, complete, unadulterated B.S.
1. I’ve shown the drones (one is an obvious recreational drone like sold in any store) and parts can be ordered online- Bondarev claim debunked
2. P-8 isn’t a spy plane, was likely doing maritime patrol off coast.
This is getting sad, what kind of gullible idiots do they expect to believe this crap?
Proof that Hobby lobby and Toys R’ US are supporting terrorists!
Beautiful video of F-15’s intercept of Su-30 over Baltic:
https://theaviationist.com/2018/01/06/the-u-s-air-force-releases-new-video-showing-f-15-deployed-to-lithuania-intercepting-russian-navy-su-30-flankers-over-the-baltics/
Looks like some of the drones were basically rec drones:
I love how they kick in full afterburner and then drop flares. Only the saudis
Not to mention the quick response of the pilot to turn away from missile’s intercept path (or not). All those gulf states spending billions on military hardware……. it’s like giving a 16 year old a Ferrari. Invest some of those defense billions in training (or contracting) better pilots.
New ISR “Flightplan”- interesting read:

ISIS has been using them for quite some time. Used them several times against US, Kurds, Iraqi forces.
This one in Mosul:

Yes, especially with Byzantine law codes on drones in most countries. First thing they should do is ban recreational drones from being able to lift any payload heavier than a camera. What you do about the availability of electronics for drones used by “do it yourself-ers” is beyond me. Honestly, I was shocked by the sophistication of what is available for drones via internet shopping.
Not what the General said, nor was he alluding to ELINT. He was talking about operational patterns, logistics, employment of weapons & tactics. But never mind, Sputnik is very reliable.
Nope Haavarla, a simple google search would have saved you from making those suppositions. There are long range drones commercially available with a range of 60km that can fly preprogrammed routes via GPS, and actively guided via tablet from several km away. You can even get ones with terrain following for goodness sake. These terrorist drones only needed gps unit (let’s say $300), altimeter (7.95), controls to release modified mortar shells (Servo motors $50-$100), besides basic drone controls. And someone with a tablet within a few miles of base if using remote control for final approach.
All available via eBay.

Not like this was the first attempt to use gps waypoint drones to attack a target:
https://www.newscientist.com/blogs/onepercent/2011/09/radio-control-aircraft-clampdo.html
“Syria could be received from one of countries with high-technological capabilities of satellite navigation and remote dropping control of professionally assembled improvised explosive devices in assigned coordinates. All drones of terrorists are fitted with pressure transducers and altitude control servo-actuators.”
This is the kind of garbage unsubstantiated reporting that is unnecessary. Really… yeah, they look very high tech. Probably can order the majority of parts off the internet, but I’m sure a “county with high tech capabilities” gave them the stuff. They look exactly as “high tech” as ISIS drones used against Kurds and US.
Here is another of the high tech drones that crashed on airfield attack:
https://muraselon.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/photo_2018-01-04_16-54-11.jpg
Out of curiousity, I looked up GPS units for drones. Cost between $300-1200 USD (simple tracking tags for under $100) and can be ordered off internet. Super. High. Tech.
Huge grain of salt with that report. First of all, there are drone then there are these hobby shop wooden science projects with wings they are launching.
“Gained control of the drones”, meaning they bought up all the AA batteries near the airfield to prevent remote control. Yes, it’s sarcasm, but look up these drones.
The Arrow is a favorite amongst the “what if” crowd. One of those aircraft who’s performance has grown to mythical status over the years. Certainly a handsome fighter, but not quite the “decades ahead of it’s time” uber-fighter as proponents claim.
Can’t even imagine what some 5th gen Arrow would cost, it was one large fighter aircraft: longer than a flanker, 50,000lb empty weight, 1,225sqft wing area.
