It is really sad to see a early production Phantom rotting away.
I wish someone would hurry up and save her.
But no this country just seems to let the aircraft rot.

Its not in Everett Aero’s interest to let airframes rot away as you put it, can’t say in all the years they have been at Bentwaters i have seen any airframes heading off to a scrapyard.

Unfortunately a couple of NIMBYs have stopped Carolyn Grace displaying her Spitfire at a local village Fete next weekend, its the same sad people that are running the Bentwaters Campaign group to stop any flying from there.

So please if you haven’t already, please write a brief email to d.c.admin@suffolkcoastal.gov.uk saying that you support the Bentwaters planning application. Please use C10/3239 as the emails subject. All it needs to say is “I am in favour of planning application C10/3239”. Your email could make all the difference. Thank you.

I’ve reposted this over on another GA forum and will write myself, despite being Norfolk based, as an airfield user.

Those damn Benjamin Britten fanbois are a pain in the rear.

The F-84F is another machine that fits that bill ! No explicable reason for the RAFM to have it full stop ! A quick donation to Bentwaters would be the answer to a storage problem!

Yes the Bentwaters Cold War Museum has no representative USAF aircraft that were based there (or Woodbridge) due to USAFM restrictions, it would be great to have an F-84F as the 79th,91st and 92nd Fighter Bomber Squadrons were stationed at the twin-bases and the 78th who were at nearby Shepherds Grove.

Funnily enough, just been writing about the Ju 88 that landed there on 13 July 1944. That probably doesn’t count – but I have images.

Andy, The museum has a display about the Ju88 including a very good 1/72 scale model and the usually published photo of it, but if you have some other less seen images of it that you could let us have that will be great.

but I do have a generally low opinion of grass roots preservation and restoration (in all facets of heritage preservation) in this country. All too often these outfits are just a good excuse for a Tea & tinkering club. In a few years, as most of the current generation get old and infirm, they’ll be gone.

If everyone has an attitude like yours, god help us !!!

All we have in the Bentwaters Cold War Museum is a canopy from a RB-45

However, is there a shortage of Jetpipes/reheat units as it just doesn’t look right at the back. It seems daft to go to all that trouble yet not bother with a major component.

Daft ?????? , its not a case of not bothering with the engines, if any are sourced they can be fitted at a later date. I will tell the lads who were working on the Jag over winter freezing their butts off in a un-heated hanger they should’nt have bothered as its daft !!.
