Old Photos

Whilst clearing out the attic at my fathers house before he moved I came across an old Frog P1.b model box, upon opening it I discovered the following three pictures. My father claims they are nothing to do with him and was just as surprised as me ! So I thought I’d share them with you all, they are all dated on the back as 17/9/60, my father had lived there since 1986 so I guess they’d been up there for a while !!!

The pictures are also labelled on the back as the following:

Vickers Valiant B.k.1
Lockheed T33A
Hawker Hunter T.7

I believe these to be the correct mark of aircraft, but I’m sure one of you will let me know if they are wrong !!

Any guesses as to location ?????????

Enjoy them anyway…………..Regards Plazz

Yes, the old Pearls airport in Grenada, around 1992.

This looks like Grenada. These two Cubana aircraft were caught on the ground during the US invasion in the 80’s. Think these are at the old airport that has now been replaced.

I’ve seen these somewhere, but looking much rougher than this.

Just ran across a couple of pictures I took 20+ years ago. Perhaps someone will find them interesting as the detritus of war.

Angola?

Looks like an Ambassador to the left of the Brabazon. Proteus Lincoln. Vampire Trainer prototype G-5-7 I suppose. So 1950 I guess.

I assume they’re all photos of the same aircraft, especially as it looks to have B-condition markings visible in the first.

Funnily enough, the Vampire trainer is perhaps the least interesting thing in that last photo! For starters there’s the Brabazon, there’s a Viscount and what looks like a C82/C119 or a Noratlas, then on the other side there’s a Lincoln with two turboprops as the outboard engines.

I have my stopwatch going to see how soon it is before someone gives chapter and verse on which year.

The second photo has “Flight Shed Team, Christchurch” on the back.
The third photo has “First Prototype Vampire trainer, Farnborough” on the back.

The B.17 is of course Sally B.

First registered in the UK as G-BEDF 5 August 1976.

Without spending a few days going through all my photos I cannot remember the date when it was repainted from silver into the camo scheme it carries now. But I am sure someone else here can remember.

You’re correct, 1962 was a bit soon for Atlantic deliveries, I’ve edited my post above. Thanks!

That seems a fair shout, thanks.

BTW without checking, I think 214 was possibly the last Lockheed produced Neptune.

Like the Kon Marine Neptune shot, for a brief moment I thought it was the RAFM Cosford one, but that is 204! Where was it taken?

The only place I saw 214 in this country was at Greenham Common on the 24/25 June 1977.

Underneath the Neptune there are what look like three F.111s. From what I can remember the there were several USAF F.111s parked on the far side at that show.

Some (all?) were supplied as -7B standard with the four cannon solid nose, 204 at Cosford included.
Wiki (which seems quite goofd on the Neptune) suggests 15 were built and supplied to Holland, 204 was converted to glass nose in late 1962.
Answered my own questions really!
unsure as to why the cannon was specified, big old bird for strafing!

I think you have a typo about the Atlantic, the Dutch received them from 1972, they did equip 320 Sqn.

Sorry, cannot help you with the question about the cannon nose Pagen01. Don’t know the answer to that one (and cannot find it either).

I’m a bit uncertain right now whether the aircraft would’ve been with 321 or 320 Squadron, I haven’t been able to narrow that down so the 321 Sqn in my previous post should be taken with a grain of salt. One of the squadrons changed over to the Breguet Atlantique in 1972, so from that year on all the Neptunes were in a single Squadron.

Post edited after Pagen01’s response below.

I also like the Kon Marine Neptune shot, just like my Frog/Hasegawa model example, except that one is 215 🙂

pagen 01
I just found these photos during an office clear out. There was no info on any of them, so any info anybody can give me on any of them is gratefully recieved. The office was at one of the sites on Hurn airport but apart from the Channel Express Herald, I doubt if the other two were taken there. I stand to be corrected though!

Does anyone know when the four cannon nose was fitted and removed, and how many Dutch P-2s had it?
Also seen pics of them carrying a strange device under their belies.
