My cherished classic car has been nicked!

Can you believe that, in the middle of last night, some ba*ast*rd, made off with my treasured classic Toyota.

Mrs Moggy was just leaving the house.

She came back in and shouted upstairs

“Where’s the Toyota?”

The answer is.. we no longer know.

A couple of days back a guy called at the door enquiring about it, he said he wanted to buy it.

Last night he obviously came back and helped himself.

When I’ve seen reports on here of cars being stolen or trashed I have always felt a little smug, living in almost crime-free rural Norfolk. Now it’s happened to me.

Grrrrrrrr!

Needless to say the appearance of the guy who called leads one to believe that his ‘house’ is almost certainly equipped with wheels and a towbar.

Written-Off!

No really? :diablo:

I’d take Terry Tibbs offer before the pound drops further than the 1.11€ it’s worth as of today!

Since it was not my fault I will get the day value of the car. Depending on which source you look at this should be between 1000€ and 1500€. Knowing the insurance companies it will probably be closer to 1000€ then 1500€. While not quite what I was hoping for, it still beats a single £. I should hear back from them sometime mid next week.

Even less chance with the value being wiped off most cars these days 🙁

Though, ideal if you are a Wheeler Dealer! 😀

While not officially confirmed yet by the insurance company, it is safe to assume the car will be a write-off.

It might not be. As long as the door is just knocked out of place and the chassis leg is intact then it still has a good chance of survival. Suspension and drive shaft being ripped out isnt really all that hard to repair they just need to be jigged and reset. Also the suspension has to be re aligned but as I said as long as the major components are intact it has a good chance of survival. But if the car is older than 3 years it may have no chance at all.

Yes. Commiserations Moggy. My Cressida is still performing well after 250,000 miles (but it does not live in Europe!).;)

The police haven’t quite managed to get here yet, some 35 hours after I reported its loss. But then it is 12 miles from the police station at Downham Market and it may not be their week for Norfolk’s incident car.

Report it as a accident and they’ll be on scene in 5 minutes with blues and twos. I must admit I know this from experience as I had a car crash two days ago. Fortunately no serious injuries and it was not my mistake, so sooner or later the insurance will refund me.

The other car hit me straight on the left front wheel. Suspencion and wheel assembly completely shot and probably the safety cage damaged as well since the driverside door was jammed stuck. While not officially confirmed yet by the insurance company, it is safe to assume the car will be a write-off.

There’s no chance of seeing it again. The engine, gearbox, suspension, accessories, tyres and the like will be in one of the scrapyards round Beck Row. The body panels will be in the crusher, along with all the personal items I left in it. (Except the full bottle of Scotch I’d guess)

(I apologise if I have missed the answer to this in the thread).

Any news on the Toyota yet, Moggy?

Hopefully it will turn up abandoned and in one piece somewhere.

As we all know, computer games are the source of many crimes

Quite so.

There was no crime at all, anywhere in the world, before the advent of computer games.

Just like there was no…. ahem…. gentlemen’s literature before the Internet came along. :diablo:

And secondly…I’d like to own up to a little bit of irony. I was playing “Grand Theft Auto” on the PS3 in between typing in my reponses! 😀

I should be ashamed of myself….

Oh dear, no doubt you will be out replicating the exact things youve been doing in that game – tomorrow. As we all know, computer games are the source of many crimes

It pretty much sums up how I feel as well in many respects. No-one’s trying to justify what they did by any means. I was just trying to say… Well… I’ve said it enough already, so I won’t say it again. 🙂

Paul

Paul, I get what you’re saying, and certainly understand where you’re coming from…
Besides,,,I’d hate to disagree with a fellow musician!!:D

I cannot disagree with any of that…sums up just how I feel about the whole issue.

In western society we seem to have gone to a place where anything can (and usually will) be excused.
-They were young
-They were poor
-They were outcast/disadvantaged by society (pick a reason)

If society can come up with an excuse for just about any behavior, no matter how bad, why are we surprised that these people have no regard for the law, other people, or property that does not belong to them?

See a car…want it…nick it.
I’m sure the thief can come up with a rationale to make it right in his mind. Or worse, never even think of it as wrong..have no more remorse for stealing your car than my dog does for p!ssing in my neighbor’s yard.

Sad.

I cannot disagree with any of that…sums up just how I feel about the whole issue. Makes me even sadder when I switch on the telly to this segment of society’s behavoiur being shown as entertainment these days…in programmes such as “Extreme Joyriding Police Chase Action” and “Drunken Scrotes Gone Badder”….Just how far down the toilet are we going these days?
