I’m really pleased that they have spruced up the soundtrack and given it the 5.1 treatment and added the option of having Waltons score.

And it looks as if this will be the best version in terms of visual quality too. 😀

When everyone started going on about it coming out on DVD I thought yeah, yeah, yeah, so what? Having seen that review etc from that link I’m buying a copy!! The extras and the commentary sound like they’ll be good.

Amazon are generally rubbish, as they charge a fortune for postage, which usually cancels out any ‘saving’ you might make on a retail price!

play.com has both dvds for 14.99 , this works out slightly more than Amazon but play has free postage. Think I may order both next pay day. Both films are must sees for those who haven’t seen them.

Thanks for the update on the coming Region 2 DVD titles, will have to order them to get the new disc with “noted extras” DVD’s of these two movies sold in the states do not come with any extras. Been looking for the documentary on the making of “A Bridge Too Far ” since I saw in on network television back in 1980.
Can’t understand why the DVD on “The Battle of Britain” was not released in the Uk first before here in the states as it should have been. After all the battle did happen in the skies of the UK !
I sure some marketing director does not know this!

Phantom – there simply weren’t enough Hurricanes around for the movie. I think Hamish Mahaddie only managed to get about half a dozen, of all types, for the film. Three airworthy ones (LF363, PZ865, and the Canadian MkXII)

It’d be a different story nowadays in terms of Spitfires and Hurricanes, but an altogether different story with regard to the Luftwaffe planes – no airworthy Heinkels, and, what, seven or eight airworthy Messerschmitts of all types? 🙁

Judging by the type of spinner and the exhaust stubs I’d say it is the Strathallan machine which was sold on to Canadian Warplane Heritage and lost in a hangar fire a few years back. 🙁

I’m sure most of you know I’d rather see Hurricanes than Spitfires.

Not that I have a problem with the Spit, she’s a beautiful plane, but I always go for the workhorse type planes.

Of course there are! The Battle of France scene at the start, Keith Park (Tervor Howard) taxiing PZ865 up to one of the airfields, the Big Wing scene, the Polish scene (which, if you look closely, has Hispano Buchons painted as Hurricanes), and of course the big dogfight at the end, and a couple of ground shots of the Poles.

Just saw this thread and I know it’s nearly dead but…..!

I had a very nice Sunday roast in the Jackdaw pub last week. The pub in which Susannah York meets Christopher Plummer is indeed called the Jackdaw (they didn’t change the name for the film) and it lies in the village of Denton which is on the A260 about 3 miles north of Hawkinge. The pub has lots of RAF memorabilia inside as it was indeed used by pilots from Hawkinge, good beer, nice food, gorgeous waitresses and barmaids, what more could one ask for??!!

Well worth a visit if you’re in the area.

I have been searching their site for week’s, but only the region 2 one…widescreen at last!! Maybe we will catch a glimpse of the famed lights in the gun ports of one of the hurricane’s. my copy’s on order
