Marriage…

Hi all,

Here’s a question I would like to pose to you all…

Does marriage signify an act of commitment to a specific person?

The reason I ask this because I had a rather interesting debate with my housemate about this.

I said and think that marriage is important and does show an act of commitment to a person, whereas he argued against, stating that you can still show an act of commitment to each other, without the need to get married.

So, where do people stand on this issue?

There seems to be a lot of folks here, who have been/ are divorced. Is it a case of the grass is greener etc, what has been the major cause. Just how much is a divorce these days?.

Marriage 1. Too young, plain and simple. At 21. IMO ones feelings/desires/tastes/tolerances/preferences change every 2 years at that age. If partner isn’t changing in same direction, there’s no chance.
Marriage 2. The flair went. OK, it could have been rescued, but I felt stiffled and in a rut.
This marriage works because it is the opposite of the above.
We get on very very well and still laugh a lot. This is such a secret which most people lose.
Luckily, after two perfect healthy kids she still has the body of a 21 year old (My 6 pack has gone but I aint fat!) so there is plenty of flair, lust etc. This is very very important in a relationship, no matter how shallow some people think it is. If the nookie isn’t right, it is a barometer of plenty of other things that are wrong.

No, if two people want to be together a piece of paper doesn’t change anything, doesn’t show more commitment. But fact is that all women want to get married sooner or later. Guys can live without it.

But not to forget that all this paper stuff is the result of tax and inheritance laws.

Uuups, too early in the morn for me!:o

In her defence I don’t suppose she appreciated the foam and rinse that I gave your living room carpet – using a very lively pint of larger!

Still any child that can recognise and say ‘Wyvern’ at the age of four must have been dragged up proper!

Fortunately I didn’t have the Mustang back then, messing with that qualifies the perpetrator for a free trip to the 25M range.

Could never pin this down to my ex, but it was probably one of her well meaning cohorts, my dear old XR2 got a screwdriver through the radiator & both door mirrors smashed off, oddly enough that was on day I presented the divorce papers to the court personally.

Happy to report that the XR2 was back on the road literally within minutes as I worked for a car accessory shop at the time & all the bits were on the shelf items 😀

I suppose Ed Miliband is the person to ask. He seems to be getting married for reasons of political expediency.

The things you do for L///ove, sorry. Votes.

There are times this forum really does need a ‘like’ button! 😀

Also an “Eject” button. 😀

The first thing I would say is marriage does not stop a person straying if they wish to, and as far as I am concerned mean that you really think anymore or less of your partner.

A couple hould have a mutual respect for each other whether they are wearing a ring and holding a piece of paper on not. A marriage or any long term partnership has to be based on love, respect, compromise and understanding. All those ingredients can be there or not and the ring of gold won’t bring them or take them away in my opinion.

I have been married almost 6 years and in that time we been through thick and thin and still stayed together, we p1ssed each other off from time to time but stayed strong, But thats love not marriage.

I would say to anyone marry if it feels right for you both and for love, But not for peer pressure etc.

The good Doctor may be convinced himself that he is right and others will be equally convinced that he is utterly wrong.

Indeed SH, quite so.

I do however wish anyone who is getting married all the very best, in the same way you’d wish a Motorcycle stunt man about to jump over a whole load of cars the all very best, you hope they’ll make it, you really do, except you know that eventually it’ll all end in tears.
