http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-14024668

If this is true and is as is being described in the media the News of the World should be closed down. I know we need a free press but this ???

Disgracefull, disgusting, i cant think of words to describe my feelings.

You really must learn to read…. (burble burble blather)

Let me know when you want a serious discussion, Mr B.

I’m not wasting my time and energy playing silly games with you.

While I cannot say for sure why the Murdochs are held in such disregard in the UK I can assure anyone that they are held in equal disregard in Ireland….and not due to their being foreign but simply down to the way they run their newspapers and their business in general.

But then we Irish, like most reasonable people, tend to have a thing about bullies and those who would shout us down…hence we are ashamed of someone with a good Irish name like Bill O’Reilly, one of the Murdoch empires shining lights !!!!

You made it clear that you think people dislike Murdoch because he is “foreign”, and now you’re back-tracking.

You really must learn to read, I said that was one of the reason’s he’s disliked. Along with wealth and power.

Let’s have a brief comprehension test from post 164:

“I think this story and the public’s reaction is fed in very large part, by the dislike of Murdoch and the fact he’s “foreign”.”
Emphasis added. It’s clear that his nationality is one one of the reason’s he’s disliked.

Unless you really expect us to believe the entire UK population has no trace of jealousy with those who have wealth, power and no one has a dash of Xenophobia.

I’m sure my friends Mercedes was vandalized for some other reason than anger towards people that have something that they don’t. Funny, when they didn’t have money, no one ever vandalized their used Volvo 340. Go figure.

So you’re saying no one resents the “haves” and everyone is welcomed by all to your fine green land….Gee, I must have been dreaming when I thought I’ve read disparaging comments about immigrants (Poles, gypsies, etc) on this very forum.

Again, I don’t know why you’re taking my comments so personally.
All I said is that Murdoch isn’t the most beloved person in the UK, and that anomosity is helping fuel this controversy.

Again, what’s incorrect with that?

On a point of information, the Culture, Media and Sport Committee doesn’t hear evidence in the Palace of Westminster but in Portcullis House across the road.

Without going into detail (obviously!), I know from my own experience that the security regime in the latter building isn’t quite as strict as in the former.

I’ll bet it’s been tightened up today, though! 🙂

It all seems a little too convenient to my mind.

Media attention has been neatly diverted from Murdoch Senior’s at times rather bewildered and hesitant performance yesterday.

Indeed!! That a very good starting point! Breaches of Parliamentary security are not uncommon so it is appalling that yet again they have been breached.

I thought I made pretty clear above, (you did read it didn’t you?) is that people don’t like Murdoch for a number of reasons, so his business being involved made a bad situation that much worse.

You made it clear that you think people dislike Murdoch because he is “foreign”, and now you’re back-tracking.

Just heard on the radio, that “They” whoever they are in Parliament want to delay their Summer recess to get it moving quicker. Now thats a good idea in my book.

It is Jim, they need extra time to find a few MP’s who are morally whiter than white…..;)

I am a sceptic and can’t help but think that peoples attention will wonder from this, like it did the MP expenses scandal, on Sunday the Red Tops will run a headline story about Katie Price and a nipple piercing or something equally important and this story will start to fade…..

Are you seriously telling us that people over here would have found this less disgusting had the newspaper in question been under British ownership?

I thought I made pretty clear above, (you did read it didn’t you?) is that people don’t like Murdoch for a number of reasons, so his business being involved made a bad situation that much worse.

Hense the red flag to a bull comment.
No doubt some people will fan the flames of this for reasons other than justifiable outrage over media exxesses.

Someone acting for the NoTW hacked a murdered teenager’s phone, listened in to the voicemail messages left by her frantic family and then deleted some messages to make room for more once the voicemail store was full – giving her family false hope that the poor child was still alive and using her phone.

Are you seriously telling us that people over here would have found this less disgusting had the newspaper in question been under British ownership?

I think this story and the public’s reaction is fed in very large part, by the dislike of Murdoch and the fact he’s “foreign”.

It would still have been a big story if all the principals had been local, but Murdoch is like a red flag to a bull for many.

I am concerned that the kernel of the story is being muddied by side issues and the publicity they generate, which are not necessarily relevant.

The enquiry and the police are going to have to be clear and very focussed in order to produce a proper outcome.

And now the Sun’s website has been hacked to show a story that Rupert Murdoch had been found dead.

God knows where all this is going to end, the only thing we can be sure of is that it isn’t ever going to end well.

Pagen – politicians have been “in bed” with the media and the press in particular for decades. This is nothing new.
