If this is true and is as is being described in the media the News of the World should be closed down. I know we need a free press but this ???

It’s not the newspaper that is the problem – it is the editor, editorial staff and journalists. Newspapers do not publish themselves – they are just paper with print on them. In fact the action might be seen as grossly unfair on the current 100 or so staff at NOTW, who are only guilty of publishing a Sunday rag, as opposed to the the culpable, who are still walking free.

= Same bog paper, different branding.

One has to be deeply sceptical, Linc, but perhaps a relatively detached force like the Northern Irish force – I can never remember its new Patten-name – could be entrusted to deal with it impartially.
The Police Force of Northern Ireland I think. I just hope the Met do not get the job of investigating themselves. SHUSH A MINUTE! do I hear the sound of shredders working overtime in New Scotland Yard?

Rebranding of the News of the World as something under the Sun banner isn’t going to take away the stain. And who’s to say that, as the mud gets deeper and more clingy, other newspapers in the same group won’t be implicated in the same way?
You can take a piece of trash and cut some of the rough edges off, polish it up a bit and then put it in a nice shiny new wrapper. But at heart it’s still the same old piece of trash.

I have a very interesting question that keeps running through my head, Who exactly is going to investigate the Police regarding the “Alleged?” bribery of the Police regarding the bribery of One?, Some?,Police Officers,
I just hope it’s not one of those internal fobs, sorry, I mean Jobs, by the C.C. from another Force.:rolleyes:

I am sure that everyone can see getting rid of the name “News of the world” does not change anything at all and in effect is just a way of trying to dump the whole thing thats happened. Such a cynical move shows lack of respect even for its customers from News international.
I do not want to see the loss of freedom of the press as thats loss of freedom of speech too. However this can not end here and an investigation needs to be independant and bring people to book.

I would like to think that they would but I shouldn’t think the average Sun reader cares one way or the other, or possibly even understands what’s going on!! Now the advertisers – that’s a different matter and it will be very interesting to see how they react.

I have always regarded the News of the World as the Sunday edition of The Sun. Therefore if the Sunday Sun does appear, it will merely be a name change! They will probably use the same staff!
If this does happen the British public and the advertisers should boycott it!

Closing the NoTW is an empty gesture that will change nothing, and is intended to deflect attention from those responsible for the shameful outrages that we have learned about over the past few days.
This gesture will be spun as some great victory for decency and the common man, too.
