I am not one of those, like many others, who runs away from a thread and to be honest I’m not sure I care for the insinuation.

Lincoln, this must have been awful for you, imagine going to all those lengths of having flap-pole installed in your garden, buying a flag and putting it up only to have a council official telling you have to take it down. It’s good that you’ve kept your celebration of Nigel Mansell’s victory alive by keeping your flag flying. Strangely enough, I’m a proud Brit as well but don’t feel it necessary to fly a flag – maybe that’s just me.

You are mixing up at least three separate arguments and missing out some other very key economic reasons for incresaing imports, none of which have anything to do with PC or H&S.

I have a flagpole holder on the front of my house, and I put the Union flag out in celebration, Next day, I had an official from the Council at the front door , telling me I had to take the flag down, as it may offend members of different races.

Its your right to fly a Union flag.

that’s the whole point !! it is no longer about regulations , it is attitudes towards percieved regulations etc etc

we are hanging on too much to what whitehall regulations say instead of just getting out there and doing it !!

that’s why third world countries are starting to domminate us in trade etc

while we have endless debates about PC H&S etc etc adding the prohibitive costs to what we do

countries with vile human rights reccords trade freely here china / tibet yet strangely P.C. and human rights is no longer an issue if you can get a widescreen TV for 200 quid from asda !!

So the problem has been with us for a lot longer than I had imagined and precedes the pervasive “multiculteralism” which has been growing in more recent years. I suppose many years ago the incidents were isolated and fewer people were aware of it or affected by it.

you realy do need to sit back and observe

they will tell you any bull**it if it keeps them in a large suburban semmi with 2.4 kids and a bmw and range rover

our local government is finding ways of dropping folks that actualy work in one department but has taken on 3 extra bosses

extra bosses for less staff ???? that my friend is where pc is comming from !!

and why anyone who is sane will never win if people are mentaly defficent they are ideal for local authority positions

And what is particularly significant is that it happened nearly 20 years ago. If you had asked me I don’t think I would have guessed that this sort of nonsense happended as long ago as that.

People who are unable to distinguish between the two and who rant on mercilesly about them being the cause of the state the UK is in are the ones whom it is too late to save.

I totally accept that H&S regulations are abused and have become fair game for lawyers and the courts. But that has nothing whatsoever to do with the creeping fear of upsetting people or beliefs by contravening the “PC” stance on a given situation.

Well, Guess as I started this rumpus, I had better tell you a story. I was still a Copper in 92, (AND FOR Sky Highs intel, I mean 1992), when A good young Brit, Nigel Mansel won the F1 World Championship,

Next day, I was hauled up to see the Ch/ Ins, who told me, I should realy take it down as it may offend some of the plethora of foreign people in the town. I poltely told him, I only had 2 yrs to go before I retired, and if he “Pushed me” into taking my flag down, it would induce stress, and I would then have do have time off work to recover. I am a chap, as stated in the Post, one who calls a spade a spade, and he knew I would do it.My flag stayed up, to this very day, and is flying at this very moment. It’s been replaced a few times due to weathering. But I am a BRIT, Bl***Y proud of it, which now begs the question, are the P.C. 1970’s my father was best of friends with many pakistanis he had one that he shared many day to day things with chatting about cultural difrences , sharing a pint , and in general having many a happy hour with him the sign of the times was ( remember prince harry getting raked over the coals for this ) my father loved him to bits and refered to him as his ” **** mate ” no offence was meant or taken as that was where he was from .. much the same if we were refered to as ” brit mates “

Health and safety has nothing to do with offending anyone. The regulations were put in place to stop stupid people doing stuff with scant regard for their’s or other’s safety.

PC was designed to show respect for other’s background and cultures. I’m still struggling to see what is actually wrong with that. It is rather more involved than name-calling as well.

All I’m saying is that effect of PC is vastly overblown for most people. It really doesn’t have a great influence over most people’s lives. Of course if anyone wants to get all steamed up over these things that don’t really affect them, then that is up to them.
