For lying,cheating whilst in positions of power. They both got 8 months but i daresay that will be reduced.

I agree that ALL out M.Ps tend to do their best, but he has by his very own actions,made many, no doubt, of the public very wary of who they can, and cannot trust in Westminster
He is not the first to get his fingers burned, and he most certainly won’t be the last. I wonder who will be next?.

If Jim is repetitive it is because the matter of political deceit is too important not to be repetitive.
In my brief flirtation with politics back in the mid 80s, I came to know a number of politicians who struck me as honest, industrious and very capable people. Imagine then, my sense of shock/horror – As Private Eye would write – when I saw those ‘names’ implicated in the Telegraph expences scandal?
My various scribblings on this Forum will reveal that I am an innocent abroad and a person of simple beliefs to boot. So, you can imagine, how the news affected me. I am of the opinion that greed is almost a force of nature.

#41, where I made a point in reply to your posts about him lying. You then repeated your point about him lying. As you did a few posts later.
We all know he lied but why should his lying and the lies and expenses scandal affecting 200 or more of them tarr ALL OF THEM with the same brush. I am in no way defending the indefensible. But I am trying to be objective about it in saying that there are honourable, honest, responsible MPs who go about their duties and responsibilites to their constituents without fuss or publicity, good or bad.
A sense of proportion is required in any debate, otherwise it ceases to be a debate, but a slanging match, which ends up being unedifying and uninteresting.

It seems the Right Honourable Member for Wandsworth North has been ridiculed by warders and pestered for cash by other prisoners.
Disgraceful. Surely he should have been incarcerated in a nice, middle class prison where he wouldn’t have to mix with the lower orders.

It was indeed. But how many of the 650 were fingering the trough – within or without the letter of the rules? I think it was about 300, so we can say that more than half were not involved.
I am not trying to be kind or unkind, just as objective as possible, as a counter to the blanket condemnation the forum serves up.:)

I think that perhaps you have too kind an opinion of politicians. It was just a year ago that the Telegraph revealed the scope and extent of the ‘expenses scandal’.
I’m aware that many acted within the letter of the rules but even so what went on was outrageous. A few got their comeuppance but, I know that many got away with it although there were subsequent resignations.
I’m with the ‘Andy in Beds’ school of political thought on this one !

You should be used to my teasing by now…;) No, the public hasn’t been lead astray. He was a politician who lied. But that should not be a reason for tarring all politicians with the same brush.
I can assure you that having been a policemen is not the only qualification for an unsheltered life. But perhaps not having been a policemen helps towards a more objective view of thew world.:)
Charlie, He has been a lier for 10 YEARS regarding this offence, and had denied it to the Public in general in the media, as a matter of fact 5 mins ago, on “Loose women” he was giving a TV interview, and was telling porkies then.(Not however a recent interview).
