Price and Huhne –8 months fair or not??

Don’t forget this man was a few hundred votes away from being the LibDem leader/deputy PM.
He lied for the best part of ten years and would no doubt have gone on lying to his grave.

He deserves prison time for the offence of perjury, not for speeding. If he had ‘manned’ up to the original offence and taken the points he would have got a driving ban for 6 months or a year.
He could have afforded to hire a driver for that time or I am sure the LidBems would have provided him with a nice young intern to ferry him around.

Now because of his lies he will be having to watch out every time he picks up the soap…

They are hardly a serious threat to society. A very large fine would have been much more appropriate.

Sorry Derek but being very wealthy, they’d just pay the fine and forget it.

My own view is that universal suffrage was never a particularly good idea.
It’s like trying to run a business by committee–of 50 million, in the case of Britain.

Well we do have a fairly effective sanction if politicians fail to meet our expectations. We don’t vote them and they lose their jobs. I wish that happened in industry.

Apart from the loan to the Sheffield Forgemasters, Huhne’s political career wasn’t too disastrous.

I personally feel that these people were in a position of trust power and need to be shown as being punished-if for no other reason than sending a message to others that no-one should be above the law.
They will be out in time for summer.

His lies affected no one but himself and his family and he has been punished but his ineptitude as a minister has and will affect all of us for years to come. Politicians are only punished for their private misdemeanours, as they should be, but never for their professional failures.

Careers, family, marriage in tatters, I think that’s probably enough.

Basically we can complain all we like about our poltical system and politicians but they are all we’ve got.

No, he’s in favour of re-instating the death penalty for perverting the course of justice.
That may seem harsh to some but in the case of politicians, I’d happily see the lot of them given a dose of the Soweto necklace, so not in the least unreasonable to me.
There isn’t one of them of any shade, creed or party that I’d p*ss on if they were on fire.
I remain as ever, non aligned.

For lying,cheating whilst in positions of power. They both got 8 months but i daresay that will be reduced.

Gary. Any and every Judge, at whatever level of Court he is holding, has one pet hate, Perverting the course of Justice. This man was in a position of power, and should have held his hands up like a man, however, it turns out he was an habitual liar, this cannot be forgiven. His wife deserves the punishment she received,
I.M.H.O. this man should have been made an example of, I would say 2 yrs, with no chance of an appeal or a reduction in sentance for good behaviour. A very hefty fine would not have gone amiss either.
If he can lie about a simple thing like speeding, what else has he done that the Public do not know about.
Unfortunately, he was a person of some power who rather mistakenly thought he could walk on water. He now has wet feet.I honestly don’t think his position, he held will do him any good, when he meets with some of his inmates.

More than fair – except that under the scheme to reduce the prison population they will probably be out after 9 or 10 weeks. Three months of community work should follow.

And this clown was a few votes short of being the leader of the Liberal demonrats, still Clegg changes his version of events more often than I change my underpants.

Chris Huhne is said to have “…lied “again and again” and committed a “flagrant offence”, with no exceptional circumstances…”, so he deserves the eight months which is a typical sentence for perverting the course of justice. Vicki Pryce has been pulled into this by Huhne, but has done her share of lying too, so a custodial sentence is appropriate, but for a lesser time.

For me, the real crime is that a prospective MP, and later a government minister, thought that he was too important to be banned from driving, and that when found out, he could bluff his way out with no consequences to himself, heedless of damage to others involved. This seems to be increasingly the accepted standard position for Westminster politicians. Integrity of character is apparently no longer required.
