Well race fans, time for some New Year’s resolutions. As I will be in the Popham area in March I’ve decided that a flight in the Rearwin would be just the thing. Of course, knowing Melvcock he will still be fidgeting with this and that, doing endless taxi test, running up and down the runway just asking for an accident. Anything except flying the silly thing. Well, come the 5th of March the Rearwin will fly. I may be making its FIRST flight, but the Rearwin will fly. Has anyone got a seat cushion to help me reach the rudder peddles?
Oh, and you’re all invited out for coffee and slagging after.

I spoke to Vintec who are doing the engine over here and they would be interested to talk. The engine on AOEF is a Ken Royce 5DF. Are you sure they don’t have a spare 7G for the Cloudster?
If it is a 5DF or 5F then there is definitely interest.

Thanks for that. Last I heard AEOF’s engine was in bits waiting for almost non-existant spares.
There are two Skyrangers in the country and I would love to get all four UK Rearwins together.

No, that was another one. AEOF is in its factory colours, roughly the same as mine. The Pan Am one was an 8135T Cloudster. Juan Trippe ordered some tandem seat Cloudsters for intrument training (hence the T in the designation) and several more were built for other customers. I have not seen one of these but the basic Cloudster is so wide that visibility must have been interesting.
That one (BGAV I think) went back to the US sometime in the late 1980s or early 1990s and is now owned by the guy who runs Jaguar in the US and who also has a Piston Provost.

Both Rearwin, rather than Commonwealth, Skyrangers. RWIN is now owned by Ashley Bourne and comes into Popham on the odd occasion. The other is, I believe, still for sale.

5th March eh. The Shrew made its debut at an airfield near to Melvis 69 years earlier. ‘Twould be nice to have one of those in attendance also.
