I haven’t been involved in many non-aviation topics as of late, but this recent string of events in Iraq (i.e. the killing of Nick Berg as well as the Abu Ghraib prison scandal) causes me to ask a few questions because I’m curious about reactions from people in other countries.
My first question is what do you make of the Nick Berg murder, and do you think that it would never have happened if the prison scandal had never occurred?
Secondly, do you feel sorry for the prisoners involved in the prison scandal?
Finally, what’s your opinion of the apparent lack of coverage from Arab media, and the lack of condemnation by Arab leaders?

Kfadrat, i would have deleted that post if i could. You can feel about Israel as you wish, but there is no need to deny the Holocaust for it. German efficiency simply had those millions of Jews and to a lesser extent Gypsies, homosexuals and other unwanted elements which they’ve killed far too well documented to simply deny it.

When it comes to gas chambers the Germans simply outclassed the U.S. Sauron
you mean ” when it comes to lieing about methods, VICTEMS of Germans outclass victems of America ” that’s all.
Arabs are NOT known for being good liers.

Ah, but when you look at prisoner handling and invading other countries, the US is trying to match our past.

Don’t forget Sauron is Canadian. So i guess i’d have to react all jumpy when someone posts something i could interpret as being anti-German 🙂
By: seahawk - 16th May 2004 at 15:55
Not anti-German. We are very open about the fact that we comitted some unbelieveable crimes during WW2.
By: Arthur - 16th May 2004 at 15:50
Hey, i like to give more than one way to read my posts. Just leave it to Sauron to interpret anything into the alleged blatant anti-Americanism of mine. I could have compared Berg’s horrible murder with an even more gruesome death in a gas chamber. That would be a difficult one – would that be anti-German, or anti-American as well?
😛

Sorry Garry I didn’t take Arthur’s subtlety into account.

“I would rather be killed like Nick Burg than fried on an electric chair”
Leave it to Arthur to find a way to discribe the act of sawing off someones head with a knife as “relatively humane” and at the same time get in an anti-American slur.
Since when has “fried on an electric chair.” been an anti American slur?
Your claiming ownership of of a method of execution is interesting to say the least…

Yes Arthur, bring up more claims of torture. If such acts were commited and the pictures are out there why has it been necessary to resort to publishing fakes?
Sauron
Fake pictures. Like the ones the tortures took themselves?
Funyn thing is that US officals are now offically talking about a possible troop withdrawl “if the Iraqi government would ask them to leave”.
By: Arthur - 15th May 2004 at 18:18
I strongly reject the posting of fake pictures. The genuine ones (both the published, and reportedly the unpublished ones) combined with the reports from former prisoners should be more than enough for any sane person.

Dying by being stabbed in the back, and subsequently getting beheaded lasts less than a minute.
Frying a person on the electric chair can last longer than five minutes. Torturing for five days prior to ‘dying while asleep’ lasts five days.
Now which one is the most humane one of the three?
By: kfadrat - 15th May 2004 at 12:28
PII, you won’t wait for long, u have my word for it … nowadays kids have no patience at all, what did you think? that I have all day dedicated for you?.

US troops tortured an Iraqi prisoner to death in January this year and captured the abuse on film, German television reported today
Spiegel TV said it had witness accounts and documents to prove that 47-year-old Asad Abdul Kareem Abdul Jaleel had been killed at the US military base at Al Asad, west of the town Khan Al Baghdadi.
The investigative news program said that he had been picked up on the open road and taken to the base on suspicion of belonging to an insurgent group
“A fellow prisoner gave Spiegel TV a detailed description how the man was sadistically tortured in the five days after his arrest,” it said.
“US soldiers also took photos of this abuse.”
The US occupation in Iraq has been rocked by a series of photographs showing abuse of Iraqi detainees by US military personnel at the Abu Ghraib prison outside Baghdad.
Spiegel TV said that US forces had tried to cover up the death of the prisoner at Al Asad by declaring in a report that he had “died in his sleep” in a document signed by pathologist Luis Santiago.
The death certificate stated that no autopsy had been conducted.
But an Iraqi coroner who received the body of the prisoner from US forces told Spiegel TV that man’s body showed “clear signs of torture”.
“The photographs of the corpse, which Spiegel TV has also seen, indicate the man was tortured,” it said, adding that the body also appeared to have undergone an autopsy using “Western methods”.
It said the man was a married father of seven, including seven-month-old twins.
Employees of the Iraqi medical examination institute in Baghdad told Spiegel TV that they had seen other torture victims among the corpses handed over to them by the International Committee of the Red Cross on behalf of the US military.
Spiegel TV said that Iraqi coroners were told not to conduct an autopsy if an American death certificate was provided, even if the cause of death appeared not to correspond to the injuries.

I must say I don’t agree that Nick Berg’s death was humane in any form or fashion. I’m actually rather surprised that would come out of Arthur’s mouth.
I don’t know if he was being anti-American, as I was paying more attention to the fact that he said the killing was humane.
Art, I must say you shocked me on this one….
kfadrat,
I’m still waiting….
Lovely avatar you have by the way…………LOL

kfadrat,
You not going to answer my questions?
By: kfadrat - 14th May 2004 at 23:37

Michael Berg, (2nd,L) father of Nick Berg, embraces a woman as other family members look on before entering a memorial service at the Kesher Israel Congregation in West Chester, Pennsylvania, May 14, 2004. Nick Berg, decapitated for the camera by militant Islamists in Iraq (news – web sites) was good-natured, adventurous and all but oblivious to the danger that surrounded him, friends and acquaintances said on Friday. Just remeber what Berg’s said today about his son’t relation to Al Qaeda and Abbas Mosawi.
I rest my case.

You’ve not seen it then Arthur? Probably just as well, it’s bloody awful, and I really can’t imagine what was going through his mind while they were doing it. Regardless of ‘sides’, religions, rights and wrongs of the situation in Iraq, I struggle to see how one human being can do this kind of thing to another. Turns my stomach. 😡
The murder was savage and stomache-turning, definately. But Berg died in a matter of seconds. Not minutes, not hours, not days. That is why i call it a relatively humanely way of killing him. Yes it’s disgusting, yes it’s vile, yes it’s savage, yes it’s horrible and it is definately unforgivable.
But i’d rather be killed like Nick Berg than fried on an electric chair if i had the choice.
And Skythe, i’m sorry you feel offended just because i commented on the ironic combination of the Nick Berg murder during the US hearings on the Abu Ghaib-scandal. It wasn’t ment to be an anti-American slur or anything, although perhaps i didn’t formulate myself clear/sober/objective/unprovocative enough.
