Scrapyard Photos; Any More?

Mark 12 – I think they could be the remains of the Westland Wallace discovered at Cranwell by the founders of Newark Air Museum and later restored for the RAFM by Skysport Engineering.

What the devil is this? Not a quiz.

I have been sifting through a few more photos and slides for the dispersal of Robert Rudhall’s collection on ebay and came across these.

I do not know what the aircraft is. The prints are fresh and appear to have been printed from the original negatives.

They may not be all from the same aircraft but the prints appear to be a set.

It has the look of a Swordfish type of airframe from the 1930’s.

Those streamlined bracing struts for the centre section must be the clue to identification. Bi-plane or mono-plane?

In the ‘portrait’ shot is a cab roof of a truck or similar with a split front windscreen which has a 1940’s feel about it.

Actually, what I thought was a Lightning behind XM650 now looks like a Bucc when the picture is bigger. Anyone disagree?

Deffo agree it’s a Bucc alright…. coca cola bottle shaped (area rule) fuselage; blast screen for rear nav’s seat; having a rear seat..lol; yep – no doubt at all :diablo:

XM602 went to the guys at Woodford but currently she is at Bruntingthorpe being used as a crew escape and familiarisation trainer for the lady in waiting. ‘388’s cockpit was saved Peter:

XM602 was her nose saved as it looks like it was removed carefully…? Also a shame XL388s nose wasnt saved…

The Typhoon flown to ‘near Brum’ for scrapping would very probably have been flown into 51 MU, Lichfield (the main Typhoon MU, but large numbers also handled by 5 MU Kemble and 20 MU Aston Down). Several hundred met their fate at Lichfield and most were sold to, and broken down on site by International Alloys, 1946/7.

Terrific quality photos. But heartbreaking! Thanks for posting them. I recently heard from a Typhoon pilot who recalled flying Typhoons to be scrapped near Birmingham. That is my neck of the woods and my family were in the steel business so I was wondering if anyone knew where the scrapyard might have been?

Unimetal, Droylsden – Neptunes &tc., was linked with Super Alloys Ltd., on the A.5 at Brownhills. I saw Meteor 7/Javelins there, June,63, then it died.
