The polls have been so far off in the last few elections its almost funny…….Of course much has to do with the liberal bias of the American Media and Hollywood. Let’s not forget that Obama needs much of the Minority Community and the Young Vote to win and historically they haven’t come out in large numbers. That is not to say they won’t? Yet, its up in the air until election day. That said, the believe the US Black Community will vote and it far greater numbers than in the past. (of course they finally have a dog in the fight) I am not so sure of the Young Voter??? They talk a good game but few vote………….I guess to much work? (to bad) Its typical they are so supportive of this candidate or that one. Yet, many never get to the polls on election day. Regardless, the point is there are a lot of variables on both sides. Clearly, it will be a interesting election day.

Hardly, immaterial as McCain and Bush think nothing a like. As a matter of fact Bush Jr. it nothing like it Father (HW Bush) or Brother (ex-Governer of Florida) Jeb. That would be like saying just because a father and son look a like. They think a like…………Just the same old Democratic Spin. Also, if the people really believe McCain is just another 3rd term of Bush and people hate Bush so much. Why is the election almost a dead heat! As logic would say that Obama should be just killing any Republican including McCain. With all do respect the American Public will decide…….at the moment half are speaking McCain.:D

With less than two weeks left in the presidential contest, Barack Obama continues to hold a commanding double-digit lead over John McCain according to the latest NEWSWEEK Poll. Among registered voters nationwide, Obama now leads McCain by 13 points, 53 percent to 40 percent. Among likely voters, Obama’s lead is similarly strong, 53 percent to 41 percent.

Obama’s lead in the NEWSWEEK Poll is consistent with other recent national polls, including soundings taken by CBS News and The New York Times, The Washington Post and ABC News, NBC News and The Wall Street Journal and by Pew Research, all of which measured Obama’s lead over McCain as somewhere between 10 and 14 points. In the NEWSWEEK Poll, Obama’s lead stayed virtually unchanged from two weeks ago, when he led McCain 52 to 41 among registered voters.

McCain wants the leave as soon as possible but not before Iraq can take care of itself. Obama has better use of US Taxpayer Dollors (i.e. Big Goverment Programs) and doesn’t understand the cost of the US leaving early and the collapse of Iraq on its people and the surrounding Countries. IMO

Whether or not they can stand each other is immaterial. The point is they have the same policies on Iraq, other areas of foreign policy, and the economy.

Vast majority of the US Goverment supported the War with Iraq. Yet, now some how McCains view is the same as Bush??? Remember, it was McCain that said the US was going in the wrong direction in Iraq and pushed for the Surge and a Major change in US Strategy. Just more Democrat Spin…….the facts don’t back up any such claim.

Good for you. I hope you gained insight from your extended discusions with your presidential candidates.

While, I wouldn’t consider my discussion as extended. They have been on various topics and typically a few minutes in length. Which, hardly makes me a insider, an expert, or a close confidant. That said, some exposure is clearly better than none at all. So, are you saying that by watching a candidate on a 30 second commercial or a hour long debate. Makes you more informed than if you could discuss issues with a candidate directly??? Personally, I’ve spoken with many a Senator, Congressmen, Ambassador, and even a few Presidents. My point is not to say I know more than anyone here…….Yet, it clearly is not less.:p

Politicians like Obama make things worse through confiscatory tax schemes and .gov mandates that put fear into the business community. The business community reacts by reducing their expenses (firing employees) and postponing plans for expanding their business (i.e. will not create new wealth and new jobs). Everybody loses in that scenario.

Its true that businesses prefer more deregulation and create new wealth, and that those supporting this ideology argue against bigger state involvement out of fears of corruption, but the reverse can also be argued as businesses do not work in the interest of the country but of themselves, or in other words have the potential to over exploit.

Greenspan himself recently stated that he made a grave miscalculation that the market would police itself, which didn’t happen.

the US and Western Europe which followed similar financial systems are now going to experience greater government involvement in vital areas of the economy (Iceland now already has direct control over its 3 failed banks) and even Bush and McCain will be doing/supporting the same things because of reality. Unfortunately some people seem to automatically equate any kind of government involvement automates to socialism (I bet Scandinavia, Japan and Singapore must seem like communist countries to them with all that state involvement, let alone actual communist countries).

I see alot of criticism of Carter too. Carter, as well as Ford before him, presided over a time when there was a major shift in the global economy. You had newly industrialized countries offering cheap products and the beginning of mass outsourcing which created major economic chaos in the US, which at the time was on a system that relied on high wages in order to counter over production of products (i.e paying people more, so they can spend more). This didn’t fare too well when countries in Asia and Latin America with their lower wages, became too competitive. Only in the Reagan administration did we see another shift to adapt to these NICs but now we’re seeing flaws in this new economic model.

Again I think this thread is getting off course (and I am guilty as charged for helping get it off the rails). I think it is fair to say that the economic downturn will dramatically impact both current American force structure and a number of acquisition programs. McCain to his credit has a record of some positives in this area, and with Obama it remains to be seen.

Either way I really see that only Iraq will be the primary difference between the two. obama wants out soon and McCain wants to set up permanent bases.
