How old are you?:D:rolleyes:

What’s my age got to do with watching a film? I suppose I’m too old to be watching things like The Lion King or Toy Story??

Shrek is a great film for both kids AND adults – there’s plenty for both age groups to enjoy, which is the secret to why the original two were so popular.

And, while we’re on the subject of age, can you actually get into an 18-rated film yet…? :diablo:

Shrek 3

Poor effort compared to what had gone before. I barely raised a smile in comparison to the second, or even the first! And there’s talk of another TWO films in the pipeline?? Time to stop, I think…!

I agree. I loved the first two, but Shrek III was a film too far.

Stardust

Matthew Vaughan’s fairytale movie was, quite frankly, bloody good fun! I’d attempted to watch it a couple of times previously, but last night I sat down properly to give it a viewing.

The two leads (Clare Danes and Charlie Cox) are suitably cast, and Michelle Pfeiffer hams it up brilliantly as an evil witch, but the scariest thing was watching Robert DeNiro in drag…!! 😮

All in all, though, a cracking fantasy adventure flick.

I think the biggest problem with a lot of these movies is that they cost so much to make, they have to find some way of getting the bums on the seats, so they HAVE to tone down the violence/langauge etc in order to make it more suitable.

I could be wrong, but I might not be…

..and it provides the extras for the DVD release.

Never seen American Psycho.

Oh yeah, something else about The Dark Knight that bothered me. This is clearly not the movie it should have been. Watch it. Witness just how intense it COULD have been. This is the latest effort by Hollywood morons to pander to the MPAA for a PG-13 rating to boost ticket sales. Cloverfield suffered because of it. This one suffered because of it. The first AVP suffered because of it. This is getting old. Stop toning stuff like this down.

Don’t know about that. Even though the expletives-on-screen weren’t all that explicit, I actually think the more violent scenes worked very well. The magic trick (where the pencil disappears), or the bit where Batman interrogates Eric Roberts (a brilliant bit of casting IMHO, and the best role of that guy if it weren’t for the video from The Killers) aren’t explicitly violent, but definately intense. I don’t mind an overdose of gore, guts and blood, but I don’t think it really fits here.

What got my attention were the deliberate cutaways by the camera when something overly violent was supposed to happen. They didn’t have to make it that obvious!

It was far better than the Batman Begins, but that didn’t take much if you ask me. I don’t buy Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne. Batman yes, but not Wayne for some reason.

You haven’t seen American Psycho then? While I think the book is far better than the film (the book being a dark, cynical almost-not-even-satire-anymore whereas the film is way too comedic), i really like the continuity between Patrick Bateman and Bruce Wayne. I think of Patrick Bateman a bit of a Bruce Wayne without the stress release nighttime job.

The Dark Knight

An absolute must see. It does live up to the hype. Way, way up, above and beyond your expected summertime superhero blockbuster sequel.

It was far better than the Batman Begins, but that didn’t take much if you ask me. I don’t buy Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne. Batman yes, but not Wayne for some reason. The rest of it was very well cast for once (no Katie Holmes errors of casting judgement, or the guy from Lord Of The Rings whose name I forget), including Ledger as the Joker. No Oscar for him though. He was nearly as good as Johnny Depp in the first Pirates movie (ok all three of them), one of the best acted roles of all time if you ask me, and if Depp can’t win one then Ledger doesn’t deserve one either.

Still prefer Tim Burton’s Batman to this though.

The Director’s Cut only added the “Mumsy” side to Ripley.

Oh no it doesn’t! The scenes testing the smart guns in the corridors, the scene with Hudson’s “We got knives” speech, the bit with all of the colonists on LV-426 pre-Alienization, the bit with Newt’s family finding the derelict ship from the first movie…all of that was re-inserted into the Director’s Cut. The Director’s Cut is FAR superior to the theatrical version if you ask me, if only because it fleshes out a lot more of the backstory.

I think Alien3 finished up the saga nicely, although the film is still vastly underrated in my opinion. It’s a fine second sequel, but adds a much darker tone to the franchise.

This is one where you have to get the extended version to really appreciate the film. They add around an hour of footage and change the beginning a bit and end up with a much more interesting and different film than what was released in theaters. Hell, this one might be the best of the four. It certainly had the best soundtrack, it’s my favorite movie soundtrack.

Resurrection, however, was just another attempt to squeeze some money out of the popular franchise. Really, it was unnecessary, and rather a daft premise. They should have left Lt. Ellen Ripley in the vast depths of the molten lead at the end of No.3. In fact, they could quite easily have made this an Alien movie without Ripley. Adding the character simply did nothing to elevate the film beyond B-grade sci-fi…

Resurrection was alright. It is my least favorite of the four, but it’s not too bad. The effects are great and the visual style really suited the franchise. Plus it has Ron Perlman, who is awesome 😀

…and yet there are rumours of a fifth film in the running!

More like seventh, with the two AVP movies sort of interjecting themselves as Alien Zero parts one and two.

Anyway they need to release the four Alien movies on Blu-Ray so I can buy a sixth box set of the films  😀

It seems some of the guys over the The Jaws Board have a new found appreciation for Jaws – The Revenge – whether it be a part of their childhood (like mine), or for other reasons.

However, it’s sobering to note that the child star of the film, Judith Barsi, was to sadly lose her life just a year after the cinematic release of the film in the UK. She and her mother were both killed by her father, who had become increasingly abusive and threatening as his daughter’s career began to take off. He shot and killed them both, before torching their house and turning the gun on himself…

Last night’s viewing, therefore, was especially poignant, given that it was just over 20 years to the day that she died. I wasn’t the only one to slip the DVD, of supposedly one of the worst movies ever made, into the player to give it a viewing…

Gentlemen, it has been a while.

I have been busy in thelast few months improving myself doing various things. It’s been enlightning.
However, I have found the time to check out a few movies. They are:

Iron Man: By far, one of the best comic-book heroes to be brought to the big screen. Robert Dopwney Junior did an incredible job in the title character. The support cast was outstanding as well. All in all, a wonderful little action flick that will somehow find it’s way into my collection.

The Incredible Hulk: I was never a fan of the first one made with Eric Bana. So I went into this one with some reservation. I do have to say that I was a little more impressed with this one. Norton did a fantastic job while the rest of the movie somewhat failed to impress me, but certainly not to the level of the first attempt. I am not sure what it is I am looking for but I guess no CGI work will ever replace Lou Ferigno.

Hellboy II: I loved the first instalment. Some light humor, a little action here and there and an incredible imagination to have come up with such a story. The follow-up was just the same and the creativity from the director was visionary. All-in-all, this was a simple popcorn movie you can just throw into the player several times just because it’s easy to watch.

And finally…

The Dark Knight: Here is all I have to say. Simply put, this is quite likely the greatest movie that was ever made. I struggled to find the right word but epic and brilliant come to mind. It is an absolute must see, period! End of story!

Until the next time, be well gentlemen.
