I’ve been bless with a new boss who is now, sadly, being forced to sell his collection of WWII stuff.
On sale are three Luftwaffe helmets from WWII, all three are of the M-40 type, he has one each of the following with the price tag marked next to it all in US dollars.
Olive drab, single decal- $575
Blue Grey, double decal- $675
Camo, single decal- $700
If anyone is interested in them, please let me know and I’ll pass on his details
He has other stuff but since this is an airforce forum, I thought I’d only post those, if you are interested in some of the other stuff, again let me know what you are interested in and I’ll pass on his details.
Just wish I had the money.
Here is a pic of what two of them look like, courtesy of German Helmets Inc

About £2 at a car boot sale usually. About £10-20 on ebay at the moment.
I had an army one, 1937 from memory, with a tube about a metre long – never seen another like it. Bought for £3, sold for a fiver many years later (at a car boot!). I know the chap who bought it – I think i’ll see if he wants to sell it again. My first four militaria purchases were a yank helmet, that gas mask, a 1914-15 star and a 1939-45 star. Lost the 39-45, sold the gas mask, and still have the other two. And I can almost smell the gas mask odour now, thinking about it. Gotta get it back for the childhood memory!

Hmm… I’d be interested to know what sort of prices WW2 civilian respirators go for. My son is due to cover WW2 at school in a couple of years, and when my ex’s daughter covered it a few years back I made her a replica gas mask. Amazing what you can cobble together with a few bits and bobs, but I’d absolutely love to be able to pack Haydn off to school on show-and-tell day with a real one… 😀

I found this site when I was looking into whether the US PASGT helmet design had been influenced by the Stahlhelm –
Although the contour of the PASGT is frequently compared to the NAZI helmet, it was not deliberately modeled after the M-35. The slight similarity in contour is the result of the fact that the Germans and Natick used the same methods to determine the contour. Both relied on wound probabilities, equipment interaction studies, and the anthropometric data to establish the shape. The people at Natick do not like to hear their helmet compared to the German M-35. US helmet designers are very sensitive about this because one of the best steel helmet designs ever, the Slade #5, was rejected during WW I for looking too much like a German M-16.
History of the PASGT helmet
Amazing what you do on a wet and windy day…

The one with the yellow grip? that’s a Wehrmacht dagger. 100 P.St is a good price if it is in acceptable condition, 150 if it is realy good. It is one of the more common daggers. I think prices here in Holland are not that high as compared to the USA or Australia. German goods are still around in large quantities. I buy/exchanche most of my German stuff in Belgium or Germany. Allied things are a lot cheaper here. A WW2 English helmet goes for maybe 10 p. st. An American one for around 50.

Very often, German aircrew wore German helmets over their leather leather or fabric flight helmets. This one came from an HE111. Often they removed the innerliner and only used the steel shell. When you see the Ww2 movie of the Memphis bell, you can see that the pilot is wearing an American m1 pot over his flighthelmet. Later, Alied aircrews wore specially designed Flakhelmets. Might post a few if interested. Bought one last year, of Ww2 vintage that was used in Iraq by tankcrew, so I guess the Aericans sold their WW2 surplus to Iraq.
Another battle helmet, this one from the Berlin Don’t know if the original owner survived. Have an american one from Normandy also. was in the sea for 60 years. Horrible condition but historicly of great value (to me). Most here at home think I am collecting junk.

That’s superb! A real piece of history – traceable too. So, why would a helmet be in the wreck of an aircraft? Defensive gunner perhaps? You could really get some provenance from a relic like that.

Why is the pic not showing off? Maybe this time.

Nobody else here has some helmets to show? Think I am going to post some English ones tomorrow. This one came from an aircraft wreck. And no, the crew survived. Helmets like this are maybe not so good looking, but they were used in the wars real battle. So in many ways they are telling a much more inportant story than the better looking ones.

A WW1 M16 helmet with a Stirnpanzer. This was a heavy piece of metal that could be installed on the helmet to give a better protection against frontal “fire”
I have only shown some german ones. Hope there is no interest in the Allied ones. Is there anybody who knows anyting on English Pots? Don’t know the difference between the WW1 markI (used in WW2) and the WW2 markII
