Does anyone know the reason for TFC not being able to test fly their MK XVIII Spitfire ?
I’ve seen various comments about not being allowed to by the CAA but what makes this aiframe any different from the one flying with HFL / ARCO or for that matter the one HFL restored a few years back for Rudy Frasca, that one was test flown before export.
Also what’s the reason for the dismantling of their MK XIV? that hasnt been sold as well has it ?

It was not TFCs spitfire to test.
As for being different to the other flyers, well yes i’d like to know that as well.
The 14 is undergoing a 200 hour inspection program.
if you are that interested why not contact them via the TFC blog?
Looking at our mk22 everyday i can confirm that painted in frame 5
is the serial PK624.
No doubt.

No.
But i know how to get hold of a R3350 if you are after sea fury bits.:D
Sorry if I’ve missed something relating to this aircraft, but I was under the impression that it was staying with TFC. Why is it being shipped to New York and what indeed, are the plans for this aircraft?
Forgive me if I’m just being completely foolish! Any info gratefully received.
Thanks,
Rich
The aircraft was sold back in the summer to Jim Beasley in PA.
All the engine snags had been sorted out and the aircraft was complete and ready to fly pending paperwork.
Unfortunatly this proved to be a major hurdle.
It was agreed to ship the spitfire, unflown, to the new owner.
It was de registered the next day
Very frustrating to the rebuild team and all involved but it was out of our hands.
Check out TFCs blog for updates.

It will be there, but in kit form all over the floor.
Low back MKXVI, was silver with red flash. Would have thought P7350 was most origional & least messed with.

Yak 11
back to your dark room!!
Ok i,ll enter this minefield
Tony Bantas Mk XVI TB252 on rebuild
As for flyers PS853, PM631, im told TD248 is a good one as well.;)
AR501,MH434,MK959, EP120,BM597 are all up there as well.
Also SM969, but i am bias.
RW382 was very original when HFL first flew it.
P7350 is about to have some major work including new spars and skins.
SM914 is the real prize, totally stock, rocket rails, bomb racks, guns and even belted ammo!
A very difficult subject to go into.
Which will be next? TE184 or even SM969…;)
More chance of PK624;)
An old leg and wheel has been fitted to make it moblie.
Talking to a mustang ‘expert’ it needs a lot of work before it will fly again.
As no work has been carried out since and it is now outside in the gun butt i would think it will be a long time before it flys anywhere.
TFCs gladiator now not going to old warden.
Now then ….. Red Bull what shade is that??
Dark Red??
Post office Red??
Roundel Red??
Or have you red enough ??!!!:D
As its going to ARCO at least the dark earth will be correct.
Roobs can you hear me………..?????:D
You say that, but I see that the Buchon flew on Saturday. Given the strength of the crosswinds and the Bf 109’s reputation that more were lost in landing/take off accidents during the war than in combat, it seems madness to me that, like them or not, a rare type was flown and displayed in such conditions. I wonder if permission was obtained from the owner, miles away in the USA, before it was allowed to be flown, or, I don’t like to say it, a bit of stubborn bravado on the part of the DX based crew, yes the party should go on if at all possible, but not if there’s the remotest chance of risk to an historic airframe, I wasn’t impressed, I’m glad I wasn’t there to see it happen.
Stubborn bravado??
I can tell you there was no such thing.
If the weather was too bad for flying the Buchon then it would have stayed on the ground.
I quite agree with Robbo,if you were not even there how can you comment?
im sure we can ask Rich !!
