I didnt realise my previous post was the 100th one ๐ , I agree its some what over priced , but definately not over hyped , Over priced in the short run , but when you consider its maintenance record and high uptimes it gives you , its worth the every penny you pay for , come on matt , its a good fighter , its surely not as agile as the 29’s are in close combat but it can hold on its own , Consider the fact that it can carry 6.5 tons of weapons load , which even the modified 29 or what they call it the “MRCA” cant carry more that 4 tons of load , It can carry the MICA , most of the precision guided weapons , it gives you good range ,its pilot friendly or just call it the darling of the pilots , whats wrong with this aircraft matt.
Just look at the IAF XPerience with the Mirages , its surely not a paper tiger as its closest competator with whom it is competing with for the MRCA program is.
it can carry more then the agil 29’s because it was designed primarily as a bomber, it doesnst matter what electronic wizardary you put into the aircraft its always going to be a bomber first.
Matt
Didn’t take too seriously worked under AIRAC pressure before!! ๐
A225HVY
A225HVY i do not understand that mate ?
anyways i only did a small stint in AIS so dont know the full intricasys of the nav world.
i have the spec of the 2000 in my bombers book and also several publications including one by AFM.
Also that article means didly squat. No offence to the ACM of the Bomber Jockeys but the Mirage was not designed to be a fighter and will never be, its an outdated design now and needs to remain in the old century not the new. Its overpriced and over hyped.
I think you will find most professional aircrew respect temp notams/snotams as well as ordinary notams…as an ex air traffiker in a military enviroment used to Temp notams et-al.
There was a serious communications mess-up (wouldn’t let me put c*ck up) here between the ATC and pilot concerned!!
A225HVY
yeah sorry A225HVY, i didnt mean to imply pilots or anyone else ignore them but i am just talking from the point of charts that have to be published cyclicly. From that point of view it was thought that the ATC of the AD should handle those temps.
I’m with you, matt! ๐
By the way, original Canon 300D costs in Russia approx 800 USD, i.e. 1.8 times cheaper than in the UK, with all-over-the-world warranty! ๐
I got a special discount on the Rebel Kiss kit, with 18-55mm USM EF-S lense, battery grip and 256mb ultra 2 card.
why is that so matt , whats wrong with the Mirages. any specific reason you say that.
well Nitin if that is the case of increase in squadron strength , where are we going to get the pilots from . I understand we require 4 pilots per aircraft , if its twin seater it doubles , so with all the new aircraft and the projected strength how are we suppose to get the pilots from , as i understand and I may be wrong we just get 40 fighter jocks per year , if that is the case there is a great mismatch between Aircraft strength and Pilots , A detailed discussion on it will be nice
simply because they are junk, and the proof of that is the amount Dassault is willing to do to sell them to India, they know they dont have a good product and have been offering tech transers since the mid to late 90’s for the mirage 2000’s. Also the Mirage was never ment to be a fighter and never designed to be one, i dont care what avionics u put into that beast its flight characteristics would never change. With the threat of J-11’s and J-10’s from China and also of MKK’s amd mark 2’s it would be prudent to buy aircraft that were fighters first bombers last.
I really hope they dont go for the Mirage 2000-9.. or any Mirage.. *fingers crossed.
Notams are taken “very” seriously especially runway closure ones!!!!!! As
can be seen above it can ruin your day. I always have a look at the notams even if going for a jolly in the local area.ATC is provided by the American military and from experience can be a bit loose but is usually of good quality…try this link to explain
http://ramcc.dtic.mil/iraq.htm
A225HVY
Temp notams and snowtams arent taken seriously they are left to the ATC to sort out, as charting cranes and obstructions can be a pain in the arse specially when you are following the Airac cycle.
X-scaled composites
was there any atc?
yeah iraq does have a temperory one as far as i know same as afhghanistan
ive seen notams every so often warning of camels, and goats across the runway, or tanks .
Extremely fortunate that there were no fatalaties, apparently the obstruction had been reported but no NOTAMs issued! ๐ฎ

Those notams dont get taken very seriously do they? i just thought i was about to ATC to deal with runway obstructions and threshold problems.
:S sad really .
Or did you just mean that the US is a bunch of nasty warmongering arms merchants?
Well not arms merchants they are very particular about that, so I would not go that far…
1) If the US is to keeps its economical strength it needs to keep its aggressive stance. It canโt threaten economic wars like it did with Japan, EU etc while having an impotent military arm.
2) It can not also be content to just handle small countries like Iraq that have been embargoed into ruin and dilapidation in the future.
3) Their will also be a question of oil, where, if the US wants not to waste the lives currently being lost in Iraq, it has to secure the oil supplies it must stay strong to defend the pipelines. That will be what everyone will be after in the future. For example what do you think Sudan is about and why no WESTERN country has jumped into stop the Arabs moving out the tribes?
Do not be so upset or suprised if the current US admin gets called warmongers. Heck I am still waiting for our beloved Tony Blaire to present us with the WMD’s that can hit UK interests within 45 minutes!
So now anyone who buys the JSF is a warmonger? Does one have to buy something like the Gripen, Rafale, or EF-2000 to not be considered “hostile”?
The UK just isnt in the limelight like it used to be half a century ago because it has no power, but if it did, it would apply to it too. past Actions also count with regards to who buys WARCRAFT and hence is called a warmonger
The owner of just a JSF and F/A-18 force wouldn’t be taking on China/Russia/North Korea! They’d be limited to keeping their neighbours peaceful, helping with regional conflicts or being part of a multi-national force where tankers would be in theatre.
exactly.. but the owners of the JSF and the F/A-18 superhornet arent that passive they are war mongering.. they need the metal that fits their attitudes and the JSF alone cant hack it.
If I buy a stealth multirole F-35, I will not waste money for something inferior in stealth and double my support cost by that. ๐
you know if the wind changes direction your eye could get stuck like that.
and will stealth help it miraculously go all the way into chinese /russian/ korean territory ?
