So what is the nature of the indian envolvement and wouldnt it be appropriate for them to also approve of the concept design before the final selection is made..and what according to you will be a reasonable timeframe during which we can see the pak fa flying around in service.
I have not heard anything from GOI saying for sure it has backed and signed a contract to develope or be in some way associated with the PAK-FA. nor has the Cheif of the airforce mentioned the aircraft. *not to my knowledge anyways.
mattI like the fact that it has a for-real 128MB graphics card instead of the typical 16MB laptop card. And yeah, Bhairav, battery life is estimated at around 120 minutes 😀 But since it is essentially my home PC (and I’ll still have my old one for travelling to the Middle East with), I’ll always have it running off AC power anyway.

Just because american have larger and more expensive equipement on board a larger sub doesn’t necessarily mean it’s better. Sub warfare is largely dependant on geography and relevant tactics. SSN are designed with deep oeanic mission in mind. In the taiwan straight the water depth is only at most 200m thus meaning shallow waters, making it a tougher time for a larger SSN to hide. Yes it is agreed a US made SSN have better detection and tracking equipement but let us not forget that a SSK sub is generally more quiet, and more suited to coastal and shallow water warfare… …
erm newsflash but the USN has thought about fighting in the shallow waters for a long time, and has taken note of the kilo’s and so on floating about in certain parts of the world.. so all that you typed is kind of redundent.

India’s state-run aircraft maker Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd plans to design and develop a home grown twin-engine all composite Advanced Jet Trainer at a cost of Rs 750 crore.
“We can develop the AJT in about Rs 750 crore and a period of 39 months from the clearance date,” HAL Chairman N R Mohanty told PTI here.
HAL is looking at developing an AJT as a logical upgrade over the Intermediate Jet Trainer (IJT), which its engineers developed and flew in 22 months from the drawing board stage, using technologies from the home-grown Tejas, the Light Combat Aircraft project, that is currently undergoing flight trials.
“It will be an all composite aircraft, which will have a glass cockpit with modern avionics, which can be used for combat, besides training pilots,” Mohanty said.
HAL and Russia’s NPS Saturn are jointly developing the higher thrust 1,700 kg AL-55-1 engine, which will eventually power the IJT, undergoing trials with a French Larzac engine, besides it being used for the home-grown AJTs.
Look at the time fram! i wouldnt be to suprised if the AJT is just a IJT on Drugs! more powerful engines, bigger wings, more hard points. yes obviously it will be longer to counter Pm and so on.. Only other way is to scale down from the LCA, using the same technology but smaller scale, might make sence specially if the LCA will be the mud mover in the future.. hardly going to go that way though.. most likely a bigger IJT.

mattI am sure the RSAF must have done pretty well. their eqpt and training is certainly among the top-10 in asia.
theres a lot of secrecy about this exercise though, unlike the previous ones. also we never heard what those mirages did in south africa.
Wonder if the Gripens are in SA at the moment.

“We can understand why the Indian media would come out with a sensational story like this.
We are very pleased with the exercise and the performance of the RSAF’s pilots and aircraft. The Indian Air Force has been an excellent host, and as their guest, it would not be courteous for us to comment on the specific outcomes of the exercise.”
Both air forces found the exercise to be of great professional value. The RSAF certainly looks forward to future such exercises with the Indian Air Force.

mattIn total, if you ask me the light-blue cowboys accepted the RoEs as requested by Indians expecting they’d go there and show the “turban-wearers who’s the boss in this saloon” – and they came out, surprised, stunned, outmanoeuvred and outthought (and also not without their tails between the legs either). It wouldn’t be the first time something like this happened to some US force… regardless in training or in a war.
mate chill out a bit show some respect, those guys were actually flying and prob have a few hours under their belt while you been in a internet CAfe most of the time or at home like me on broadband or something. the USAF pilots have not wronged you in anyway so treat them with the same respect you would expect some one to treat InAF pilots.
They themselves admitted to have underestimated the InAF tactics.

Not sure how glass fibre will succeed if steel hasnt so far. and if GFRP’s do “better resist” underwater explosions you would think the US and the UK would use them as hull material for all of their Combatents.

Goa Shipyard to build 8 mine-sweepers for Navy

Mormugao: An advanced class of eight mine-sweepers called Mine Counter Measure Vessels will be built by Goa Shipyard Ltd (GSL) for the Indian Navy at a cost of about Rs 2,400 crore. Each vessel will cost Rs 300 crore and GSL is optimistic that the navy will place orders for three more vessels after the first eight are delivered. GSL Chairperson Rear Admiral Sampath Pillai (Retd.) stated that the new vessels were different from traditional mine-sweepers because their hulls were built of glass-reinforced plastic rather than steel. “This makes them unique because they will also have the latest sensors and equipment to detect and de-activate mines,” he said. According to him, most navies focus on buying destroyers and frigates but lack mine-sweepers. “After the Bangladesh war, we had to approach the former Soviet Union for help to clear the mines laid around our ports. Even the US and Australian navies do not have such vessels,” he said. .
not sure about the rest but nothing unique in this ! as i have already mentioned in previous posts about boats. Would be nice to see what the impact tolerance of these ships is.
