I just don’t see the logic in waiting when you don’t have to; buy Gripen and use LCA as a Tech Demonstrator to work things out for the MCA, which can replace the M2000 and MiG-29.

    Aah but the problem at the moment in India is that they have large numbers of technical graduates engineering ones that are going out the country its like a brain drain. India needs prestigious project to work just to keep the best in the country and not end up in MIT working for DARPA on technology that will be later denied to Indian scientist.. its funny and ironic.

    I do no think India will be able to offer the same type of “offsets” as the US even EU countries can not match it at the moment. If it does have export sucess against the F-16’s it will be a miracle.

    Hmm dont jump on me for this, and dont qoute me either.

    not trying to flame but yeah .. just make a few token LCA’s and Get on with the MCA thats going to be needed also in the future.

    Ah but the problem is the Mig-21’s need replacing and for the its better to have a fighter ur making at home, atleast it spreads the wealth in your own country (maybe only to the top echolon but it still has an efect.)

    Can some one tell me why no one thought about replacing Mig-21’s before? i mean why didnt former governments or IAF see what was going to happen and try to correct the issue by slowly fading out and buy other jets?

    and with all this peacenik talk going on, and defence budget cut (doubt it would happen but u never know) i am worried bout projects such as AVATAR that will teach us things for the future.

    @ Aurel

    the wieght and redistribution of it, due to enlarged engine should not be much of a problem, might even be compensated for by a heavier front landing gear. Its not impossible

    @SOC

    Dude u, arthur and others know shed loads more, so i hope ur not pulling a prank. But i honestly think it would work and it wouldnt need that much re jigging to make it work.

    And in the Data linking capabilities of the gripen, and tie that into the envisioned datalinking capability the IN want to go towards (for reference please see NAVAL thread) and you have a great system of real time information transfer and analysys.
