US commerce secretary in Prague to hawk F-16s
15/12/2003 at 20:01:37
Date line: PRAGUE
US Commerce Secretary Don Evans was in Prague Monday trying to convince Czech authorities to buy 14 used US-made F-16 fighter jets.
He said after a meeting with Czech President Vaclav Klaus that F-16’s were in wide use in NATO countries, making maintenance and training easier.
The Czech president said the decision to replace its communist-era Mig-21s by 2005 would depend on the country’s strategic interests.
The administration of centre-left Prime Minister Vladimir Spidla is to make a final decision before the end of the year.
Evans was to meet with Spidla later Monday.
A commission of experts recommended at the beginning of the month that the government buy 14 Swedish-made Saab-39 Gripen jets.
Sweden has offered new planes to be leased for 10 years at the price of used aircraft, throwing in the logistics needed over the period to boot.
Washington recently offered advantageous loans worth 550 million dollars (447 million euros) to finance the purchase of fighter jets, including those made by other NATO members.
Belgium and the Netherlands have offered updated F-16 MLUs while those from Washington are F-16 Bloc 15 aircraft, made in the 1980s.
Canada has offered used F/A-18 jets.

About MiG-29 well guys this plane is shortlegged..a replacement of MiG-23 please remmeber..its doctrine and usage is only Russian based system..any country who exported the plane but haven`t used it the way that MiG-29 was developed it suffered..hense the examples of recent performance.
One more thing MiG-29 is not i mean not an effective BVR interceptor look i used word INTERCEPTOR, reason ..MIG-29 be it carrying R-27, or R-77 she carrys only two which have to be ripplefire..if one is fired MIG-29 face some stability problems..
Do you have the source about the stability problems ???
Shortlegged? i cant believe this.. Its only short legged if the Aircraft does not meet the requirements passed on to the designers by the Soveits… its only short legged if it does not meet its clients requirements!!!!!!!!
And If that was the case, it would not have been put into production! the project would have died.
P.s.
the Taliban were not Reg army as such.. i think they were retired or voluteers forces, they were allowed to “resign” and work for the taliban..this was for deniability purposes iirc.

There are also 6 main forces, except American in this region: Russia, Euros, India, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Iran, and in less Turkey&Uzbekistan. If interests’ of first three forces are coincide with USA (Russia was and is the main supporter of Northern Alliance and main provider of data and information during anti-terrorist operation, India is battling the Pakistan in this region, and Euros are adding finances and stability or have some old-going interests like Germany), than three others – Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Iran to a greater or lesser extent support Muslim extremists. For example, Pakistanian Special Forces (righter – Pakistanian Intelligence Service) provide support in arms/data/ammunition to Taliban itself and independent fighters like Gulbeddin Hekmatiar, even despite that fact that official Islamabad don’t support them. Recently in Pakistanian North-West Border Province and Beludgistan radical Muslims won the elections and now the anti-American forces have a good bases. Saudi Arabia (with its old-going connections to mullah Omar and Extremely Right Muslim Union running by Abd ar-Rabb ar-Rasul Saiiaf in opposition to Karsai’s government supported by USA) is donating another wing of antiAmerican/antiCoalition fighters. Look at Southern-East region – they are swarming with Saudi Arabia missioners. And Iran plays an interesting role in Afghanistan – Teheranis promising $560mlns + technical and humanitarian aid to Kabul – Iranians are count on Shiites, primary in center and NW Afghanistan. In Herat city for example there is a local representative office of Guard of Islamic Revolution, while in other region Iranians supporting such gropus like “Mohammadian Fighters/Host” and “Holy Fighters”. Despite the Washington displeasure Karsai himself has a strong tights with Iran.
—–The key difference is that all Educated Afghans backed the Soviets and all illiterate islamists were backed by Americans and still Soviet lost. The main reason is the use of Hard currency like dollar to buy loyalties which Soviet Union did not have at that time.
The key difference is that Coalition and Karsai government control only their bases and 1/2 of Kabul territory – that’s the key difference. The clan field commanders do whatever they want to do in their territory, incl. heroin cultivation. The key difference that Coalition even failed to create an Afgan Army loyal to government. The key difference that even without another superpower support Taliban and extremists leaders feel themselves fine on Afgan territory – that’s the key difference.

Karzai is a former Srinagar resident.
Iran has probably done more over the years to help get rid of the Taliban then the USA difference was, Iran Like Russia and India provided logistical support due to UN sanctions on supplying arms and aid to the Afghans.
and India’s role in afghanistan has be shadowy, RAW was supposed to operate and help the Northen commanders but i am not sure if this is true..Aid and intelligence from Afghanistan has always been Vital for India. Balanced afghanistan that was as prosperous as days of old would be a great thing for the Indian side.
Out of all the peops that are mentioned. Russian and Iranian help to the NA is prob what kept the Taliban from taking everything..
The US was a bit like an after thought when u think that the other parties have always been trying to get rid of the Taliban.
little bit?
me? no ! no way!
wait was is it?
hmm i am not a Scitzo..:p

They are a nice sight, but if there’s no use for them, they are expensive toys, sort of. The question of usefullness is clearly not asked frequently enough. Take Switzerland, my own country: We’re about to select a replacement for our F-5 E/Fs and Mirage II RS.
With 33 F/A-18 we do already have a modern multi role fighter. A full grown war in Central Western Europe seems highly unlikely. So why do we need another plane? Probably mostly to be a little less dependent on Boeing and the US…
well to be honest, i would wish for all Airforces to be useless..but that would mean no more aircraft..
🙁
not good at all..
I dont care i just like Aircraft 😀

3) For the record, one of our F-111C’s once penetrated the defensive shield of US Navy carrier task force and flew over the carrier island during an exercise. AFAIK we are the only air force the world to accomplish that.
4) We have have one of the highest standards of crew training in the world.
1) LOL chill mate, I was messing bout sorry u didnt see the lighter side.
2) not the full inventory no..
3) I dont see how that matters
4) I dont doubt that at all…but the RAF, USAF, French AF, all claim the same.
I honestly think everyone should have an airforce..
:p
P.s… who would wanna bomb the Aussies? come on? friendliest bunch of blokes i know!
EFA nose cone, and Gripen nose cones are probably filtered.
One of the things they looked at in reducing the Front RCS on the EFA is the nose cone, and what signals it filters… .I think most nose cone manufacturers do this kind of research in their Anachoic chambers..
evidance? My uncle..lol joke.. hmm … nothing hard or fast 😛
Most nose cones have this feature, I do not think it is anything new, i think thats what the Quartz crystals are for.
Re: What about IDF/AF?
