Eurofighter Typhoon with EL/M-2052 (or CAESAR) and thrust vectoring version of EJ-200 will be the best choice for MRCA. It incorporates the latest technologies in terms of design, aerodynamics, engine and weapons. If possible, we should go for couple of EA-18G as well, for say around 25. They have pretty descent EA and EW capabilities. Eurofighter and SU-30 MKI backed by EA-18G and Phalcon will be unmatchable in Asia and IOR.

apart from that their is also the issue that in no circumstances would the eads guys allow you to put on a AESA radar.. would make the IAF more advanced then most of the European AF for the next half century!

Oh and it would delay induction of the MMCRA even further! which the IAF cannot afford.. what the IAF needs now is something that is available off the shelf and FAST!

Did some one compare the Growler to the SU-35 or Eurofighter? People do realise the growler is as close to a flying super computer as you can probably get dont they?

Yeah the F-22 and Typhoon do have lots of processing power compared to other aircraft but people shouldnt really be supprised to see this news..

SINGAPORE/NEW DELHI: An Indian submarine and two Chinese warships on an anti-piracy mission were recently locked in a tense standoff in the waters
off Somalia, Chinese media reports said on Wednesday. The Indian Navy said none of its submarines were in the area. ( Watch )

In a rare reporting of the incident, Qingdao Chenbao, a Chinese daily, said the Indian submarine “stalked” the Chinese warships and they were “locked in a tense standoff for at least half an hour” after which the Indian submarine was forced to surface.

The submarine and the two warships were involved in several rounds of manoeuvring during which both sides evidently tried to test each other’s sonar systems for weaknesses. The incident occurred on January 15 in the waters near the Bab Al-Mandab Strait.

An Indian Navy spokesperson said in New Delhi that “no Indian submarine surfaced in the area”.

The Chinese report, which first appeared on Tuesday, had been picked up by numerous mainland Chinese websites a day later. Chinese warships have been patrolling in the waters off the Gulf of Aden, one of the world’s busiest sea routes, to prevent piracy attacks.

China has not officially commented on the incident, which reportedly ended when the Indian vessel left without further confrontation.

The Chinese ships had picked up sonar signals of an unidentified submarine, which the Chinese navy identified as a submarine armed with around 20 torpedoes belonging to the Indian navy, the South China Morning Post said in its report on the incident.

The submarine moved into deeper waters but was tracked by an anti-submarine helicopter, cornered and forced to surface. The submarine had been trailing the Chinese ships since they entered the Indian Ocean on its way to the Gulf of Aden, the paper said.

The waters around the Gulf of Aden have turned extremely hazardous for commercial shipping following attacks by Somalia-based pirates. India is among several countries, including the US, Britain, France, Iran, South Korea and China, that have sent warships to patrol the sea lanes in the area to prevent attacks by pirates.

Yes indeed India has suffered huge losses to terrorism over the past years and a lot of that terrorism has roots in Pakistan. Pakistan has also suffered at the hands of terrorists as well. But a “final war” as you say would only inflame the situation further and provide no real protection to Indian citizens in the long run.

No two nuclear armed states have ever fought a direct conflict…..ever! Now is not the time to start. India would be better served in trying to help Pakistan develop a stable set of democratic institutions that could help it reign in the rogue elements of their military and ISI that are responsible for large part of the problem. A general war will not solve the issue. it will only put tens of millions of innocents in harms way.

unfortunately only way to do the latter is to start a war, pakistan has gone beyond a failed state to be helped in any other way.

Yes pakistan has suffered at the hands of terrorists but you cannot expect not to be bitten if you bread mosquitos in your own back yard.

It all boils down to poor management!

We on the forums have been talking about a failure in the Kaveri for a very very long time now. The insiders at ADA would have known about it even longer.

If you are making a plane and in the past you have had a failed design because the engine was not powerful enough it would be one of the top 10 lessons learnt and as soon as you got a whiff that the future engine was going to fail and or not be as powerful as you may need. you would carry out risk mitigation work.

i.e. Start doing what ever it takes to make sure that the millions you already spent on the project arent wasted even if it means spending a few million extra.

The programme management from the start seems to be dialled up for failure!

I’ll bet they’re still having that arguement in 50 years.

Well nothing to stop some of these things happening, the idea of shutting down the F-22 and spending the money on an F-35D isnt so bad. For one thing the numbers of the F-35 that are being sold around the world are huge! production facilities will be dealing with larger numbers than anything the F-22 production needs to meet so once the structure has been proven etc it would not be a stupendously crazy idea to use the learnings from the F-22 in the F-35D!

possibly the only way to keep air dominance for the US vis-a-vis some of its foes and make sure the US does not go any further into dept to its foes than it currently is!

No point in paying for expensive F-22 by borrowing money from an Foe. Foe has its grips very tightly on the rug the US armed forces are standing on! only needs a small jerk.
