The ones who still believe in following gandhi’s stupid policy even though the world has moved on. .
Ghandis policy vis-a-vis world affairs post Raj India? hmm I dont think I have read anything about those please fill me in.
As to the BS that gandhi got India freedom. What can I say, Cong has done a good job of praising themselves throughout history.
So seriously I am really interested in knowing who actually helped India get into the spot light, and highlight the troubles people where facing in India at that time? What singular person, not events or happenstance, helped move India closer to freedom and gain freedom than Ghandi? Who united more people than him?
Anyway possibly for another thread, but I would also like to know, since you denounce Ghandi so Easily and so Quickly what you have done for India in your life that exceeds Ghandis attempts.
Actually they not the same people. Indians now are not the gandhivadi or nehruvian retards who used to be around in the 50’s and 60’s. They are more pragmatic and realize arabs and India have no common stratergic interest.
I need to check; when you denegrate Ghandivadis to whome are you making your attack? The people who followed Ghandi to give you the very freedom you enjoy? Or the Nehru dynasty?
Yes they could buy them off the shelf but then they should shut up about being independent of the west  . It is not DRDO’s arrogance that GTRE is a big f**k up. If you don’t have a clue about why India went with Lockheed and not the French just say so. There are enough people on BR who will enlighten you. By your standards even pakistan has a fighter, kudos to them.
I dont know the intimate details of why GTRE is such a joke, however it doest not interest me much except for its end goal of powering the LCA.
All I was aiming to point out/say is that Brazil/Embraer is positioned to build a fighter jet if the will was there. Fortunately or unfortunately they dont choose to.
Errr no they are not. LCA is held up thanks to GTRE’s Kaveri. Embraer has zero experience building engines forget a jet engine. All Embraer planes have engines sourced from outside. HAL has more experience with HF-24 which lack of fore sight prevented from leading upto HF-73.
Erm yes they are!
So wow HAL built HF 24 way back when..
Why would they need to develop their own engines? :S They could buy the engines of the shelf if they needed or wanted.
What is the real point of re-inventing the wheel when you can buy it off the shelf?
The Arrogance at DRDO and the RED TAPE mentality/culture that is HAL/DRDO caused the issues with LCA and Kaveri.
This does not mean everyone else in the world has to follow those rules if they want to build their own fighter.

So ? It will be 11 or more likely 12th country to join the list congrats. How long before it can launch its on weather, comm and recon sats? It will take 3 decades easily. The c-390 is seems like a useful option but who is providing the engines?
The R-99 is eyerie (swedish) fitted on the embrarer damn it! AMX was built with italian help and can brazil or SA make a fighter on its own?
Brazil, Embraer is better placed to develop a fighter than HAL/DRDO/NAL/ADA were when it first started out with the LCA. If the will existed to build a LCA type aircraft they could do it in a suprisingly rapid rate!
Just to add to this thread, this was recently posted at the excellent Secret Projects Forum by matej. It shows a model of what appears to be a blend of the two prototypes we have seen thus far and may give us some idea of where all this F-5 pimping is heading…………I dont think Raptor pilots need to be too worried quite yet:D
Heres the link: http://www.secretprojects.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,3399.0/highlight,iran.html
Well i think the Raptor pilots have a lot to worry about anyway .. Atleast for the near future until all the FRACAS are sorted out
p.s. does anyone here want to volunteer and warn the iranians not to go down this line in case they end up with a F/A-18? I know they are the bad guys bleh bleh bleh but even they do not deserve this!
I was expecting to read the sentence..
“if haydees freezes over”
Do you have a source for this, which variants? Is it still the case? Some evidence that this is a real problem would be useful.
Why use an Attack helicopter for insertion when you can use a Transport helicopter?
Trying to find a source but might be difficult as it is so many years after the apache was bought.
Whats the Bet that the VVIP or BBJ are bugged to infinity and beyond with even a thing in the bathroom to see how well the PMs digestive system is doing
F-16IN Given Super Powers
January 18, 2008: The U.S. is offering to sell India a special F-16 that can do supercruise. Thirty years ago, the manufacturer of the F-16 modified the design a bit, and created a version (F-16XL) that could supercruise. That means it could travel faster than the speed of sound (“supersonic”, or about 1,000 kilometers an hour) without using the fuel guzzling afterburner. The concept was put aside, because it wasn’t really worth the effort at the time. A decade later, when the F-22 and F-35 were in development, supercruise was reintroduced. Mostly this is about more powerful engines, and a shape that accommodates that sustained high speed. The F-16IN would also have phased array (AESA) radar, that is more reliable and powerful than conventional radar. The aircraft would also have a passive (heat seeking) “radar” and extensive electronic warfare gear built in. This would be the most powerful F-16 ever built, and certainly more capable than the models Pakistan is getting. That could lead to a situation where F-16s would be fighting F-16s.
All this is part of an effort to snag a competitive Indian contract for 126 high performance fighters. India is willing to pay up to $100 million, or more, per aircraft, and now the F-16IN is a contender. At least on paper. The F-35 is not being offered to India for this contract because the F-35 will not enter service in time (as laid down by the Indians.) Moreover, the F-16IN meets all the requirement of the Indian contract, and is competitive with the other contenders (the U.S. F-18E, the French Rafale, Eurofighter/Typhoon, Russian MiG-35 and Sweden’s Gripen.)

As much as i would hate over expensive ‘us aircraft being bought by india, I would love to see the F-16xl fly if this is true!
Mi-25/35 arent used now for insertion/extraction of troops. They are just for dedicated attack.I mean it can be used but not together with a combat profile.Earlier Hinds operated with a group of soldiers but the extra weight proved disadvantageous. Also since the Mi-35s have to land for insertion/extraction there is nobody giving fire support at that time.So it was stopped and instead just carried a flight engineer cum machine gunner in the rear compartment. Now the normal tactic is to operate them along with Mi-8s for troop insertion/extraction with Mi-35 giving fire support.
Was it not used in Sierra leone for extraction and insertion? cant see apaches or tigers being of much use in those circumstances! special when the Apache has to fire of a million dollar missile to fire its gun.
But hats of I stand corrected. 🙂 learn something new every day.
I just wish Indian reporters do some back ground reading before they go on about how wonderful American equipment is compared to the rest of the worlds.
It’s in open domain that Apaches had to fire of their hellfire missiles before they could use their guns! it is also pretty well documented that for insertion and extraction of troops the Apaches and other modern helicopters are outshone by older generation aircraft namely the Mi-35.
Would it not make sense for India which does not yet have the luxury of infinite resources to carry on in tradition and use design similar to the Mi-35?
Why have two aircraft flying into danger, apache leading and clearing resistance dhruv following with troops, when both these things could be done by one aircraft?
I am sure the Royal marines would have loved to have the Mi-35 in service in Afghanistan.
Great so we are going from being dependent on Russian arms to being dependent on more expensive embargo suffering American arms!
Woopti Dooo…
I hope the Indians learn about all the problems the Brits faced after buying the apaches including the helos performence being poetically adjusted by boeing.
seen things at the grass roots for this for some time the cost of development cannot go to India as it has been in production for sometime.
What is staggering is that India is even looking into it, some one must be getting a juicy % or back hander from this for sure. Even the US Armed forces questioned the purchase of this aircraft! Why does india want it so bad for spec ops when the aircraft its buying has nothing special in it.
Even the US is looking at Russia transport to help it in afghanistan and Iraq as they are more efficient then available western products. so why go west at this time for such a high price.
“
The RAF, as lead customer for the new aircraft, has taken delivery of twenty-five C-130Js. The first was delivered to RAF Lyneham in November 1999. The last was delivered on 21st June 2001. Two variants were ordered: 10 standard C-130J aircraft; and 15 ‘stretched’ C-130J-30s. The latter are 180 inches longer and have an increased load carrying volume within a comfortable payload of over 40,000lbs. The RAF trains its C-130J crews in a purpose-built school house, which was also supplied by Lockheed Martin. This contains two full motion dynamic mission simulators. Since entering service, the RAF’s C-130Js have been used in a variety of operational missions including action in the former Yugoslavia, Afghanistan and Iraq.
British industry participation in the world-wide C-130J programme is substantial. The supply chain for C-130J regularly extends to some 150 UK companies, contributions to the programme being made from all sectors of the aerospace industry from SME’s to the largest multi-nationals. UK-owned companies provide over 20% of the value of each C-130J that rolls off the production line. The UK C-130J Industrial Participation programme has to date provided approximately £1billion of business to UK Aerospace and Defence contractors, supporting in excess of 18,000 man years of employment.
Collectively, the UK industrial team is known as the UK C-130J Industrial Support Group and includes companies such as Rolls-Royce (engines), GKN Westland Aerospace (engine nacelles), Goodrich (digital engine controls) and Smiths Aerospace, including Dowty Propellers (power generation and distribution propellers). Over £740M in C-130J-related business has been placed directly with Lockheed Martin’s British industrial partners and suppliers to date. Further sales will increase this figure.”
The super carriers are apparently slated to have electromagnetic catapaults. As to them being becons or i would like to add a question, would the energy output by them be more detectable than say turbon jet engines on afterburn during take off?
Also would be the physical and mental effect on say people with all that energy around.. IIRC I read some place that electromagnetics has a big effect on crop growth and places where they have maaahaaahooosive electric pylons the children are said to suffer from its effect.
BAE once again shows how good it is at selling lemons to India! There are so many more advanced and better fighter trainers that india could go for and they end up plonking for this old hag!
