All in all, a Rafale/Typhoon/Gripen NG would still put India way less at risk of US political cloud than an US plane. And if ever USA was trying to annoy Rafale/Typhoon/Gripen NG they would not only annoy India but as well the selling country, which both would try to change the situation. Once again, something quite different than having an US plane.

Who would you rather believe in this matter. Dassault who has two deals worth nearly 20 billion at stake or the US Embassy who has no reason to lie to the USG in a classified cable.

Also Kramer, It only makes sense for the Americans to apply pressure before any deal is signed and not after. IF the Gripen is selected and then the Americans playing underhand tactics will further erode their market position in India and also it won’t help GE. Even Tejas re-engining would be put into question.

Also on the F414 ToT, I think since Tejas will also be using it, it would be more benefical to India than any other engine offered.

So whatever tricks Americans may try they will try now before the deal is clinched by some one, after that they will not be disruptive force, unless of course we go on and explode a nuke of some kind. 😉

For me the only relevant bit is this

Possibly there is nothing Chinese would do except some angry rhetoric, but none of our leaders have the will power to sell arms to Taiwan.

And there is no point in getting on the wrongside of China over an issue like Taiwan, there are issues much closer to home to deal with first. This is the reason why even Americans don’t sell certain arms to Taiwan anymore. They don’t have any strategic value for us especially.

With due respect the status of Taiwan and that of Pakistan are totally different. For one we never claim Pakistan to be a part of our country.

Yes of course it would irk China and no our leaders do not have the balls. And LCA MK2s first priority is to meet IAF needs. If they deliver what they promises they will have to expand production to even meet IAF needs.

By the time HAL would be making, LCA,Su 30,MRCA,T-50 and various upgrade programs.
