I am not a big fan of China but to regard them like one would regard Iraq is a bit naive.
One fact you seem to ignore is this. Even if it will prevail ultimately can and will America risk losing several million people and several big cities ? Democracies usually have much lower causality tolerance (both civilian and military) than totalitarian regimes. So China’s deterrent is in place as long as it has the ability to cause unacceptable loss to American life. It do not really have to win !
See the Leverage for example North Korea has over the west and South. In an all out War it will most definitely collapse, but the South and West has more to lose than they have, so much so that the North can even get away with acts of War.
Check out the Typhoon News Thread III.
I know they were talking about this innovative design (similar to the one SAAB adopted for their NG) but is the final decision made ? Now I will go and check the thread :diablo:
Actually found what i was looking for 😀
As well as the new helmet, Eurofighter announced that it and Euroradar have begun full-scale development of an Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar with a projected in-service date of 2015.
Having some Jaguars come off the RAF’s original order and get allocated to teh IAF certainly helped the plane to get chosen by India originally did it not?
🙂
Did they finalize on the AESA design for the Typhoon ?
EADS guys are very optimistic about Typhoons chances in MRCA off-late, they think they have a 60% chance of winning it.
Could very well happen IMHO, Obama admin is giving India the cold shoulder, which may limit U.S purchases to Choppers and Transports. French hasn’t shown that much enthusiasm throughout the MRCA process and are trying to squeeze a few Rafales in outside the dealSweden being a light weight is not that good for the Gripen. . And with the weak Euro could very well have Typhoon in Indian colours one day.
I am absolutely certain that India will not want pre-owned typhoons but on a temporary basis.
I was being sarcastic. The IL 76/78 issue is very much specefic to its type and inducting AWACS based on the platform will only increase the woes. This is why IAF wants another type for their future heavy lift and tanker fleet.
F 16 / F 14
Its a good thing that Hawk issue is resolved and we are going for more of these.
Just shudder at the thought of yet another AJT in the circus 😮
I say 3 different AJTs 2 Different MRCAS etc. Ours will be an airforce so diverse that it reflects the diversity of the country.
who said that it doesn’t increase RCS ? it does increase the RCS. the only thing that they found is that its not as big a RCS increase and the trade-off in removing a more complicated retractable system (retracting it requires motors) and associated costs versus RCS yielded a result that showed it was ok to place a fixed probe.
Yes even Dassault thought the RCS trade off was insignificant to be worth the trouble, but ADA thinks otherwise and thus may be delaying a capability which can be a had earlier in case of a fixed probe.
yawn …. quadbike, why don’t you ask this question in the “Rafale News” thread. Since you are quoting the french, they are responsible for giving you doubts …. you should hear them out.
I am basically stating that if the fixed probe in Rafale does not increase its RCS compared to its peers, neither should a fixed probe on LCA. All in all just saying that a fixed probe is not much of an RCS enhancer. If the LCA end up with higher RCS than the Gripen or its peers it would not be because of the probe but the overall design.
When the LCA was being designed India never had the IL78 Midas. A2A-Refuelling is very new in the IAF.
You missed the whole point. The significance of an internal IFR probe is that frontal/profile RCS of Tejas is kept small. 🙂
How significant is that argument ? The Rafale has very low RCS which atleast the French claim to be lower than fighters with an internal probe.
Keep in mind that the AMCA will be twin engined and the Kaveri-M-88 engine was touted as a possible fit for that fighter..and if it is successful in meeting the thrust, weight and reliability criteria, a production run of 250 Kaveri-Snecma hybrid engines is not only likely to be met, but may be exceeded as well. Turbofan engine development being a nationally strategic issue, it is quite imperative that the Kaveri-Snecma be developed- but at the same time, its timelines are not dovetailing with the IAF’s requirements for the Tejas Mk2, so these 2 programs have to be run separate.
This is indeed the best-case scenario. The AMCA for example may not arrive on time. It may end up being overweight trying to add latest gizmos and may in the end require a higher thrust engine.
Gives it all the more chance in Indian MRCA IMHO.
UK can have the Naval LCA. With BAE helping out HAL on radar, avionics and other things the thing may actually see service in time. But then again even the IN wants the F 35 for its future carriers.
It is speculated in all defence circles. You go to BR forum, there is almost universal consensus that Tejas Mk.2 will equal Gripen-NG.
While some of the guys there are knowledgeable its still only a forum. Now do not get me wrong MK2 may more or less equal Gripen NG in payload capability and electronic gizmos, but the NG will always have better aerodynamic performance.
Report: Elta Or EADS To Help Build Tejas AESA, Project Codenamed “Uttam”
India’s home-grown AESA radar effort will soon finalise a developent partner, reports The Indian Express. According to the report, a progressive downselect since December — when the DRDO first invited bids — has come down to Israel’s Elta and EADS Defence & Security, following the elimination of Selex, Phazotron and Thales. A recent Livefist post on the Tejas AESA is here. Oh, and by the way, I hear the LCA AESA is being developed under something called “Project Uttam”.
Does British jag or Indian Jag have different airframe ? NOPE simply waste of time , i think even this Jaguar engine upgrade deal will go like Mig-27 ,dumped for purchase of additional MMRCA
No because being a western platform the Jags are much reliable than the MIG 27. And some of the airframes are pretty new as well, we will see them around for some time to come.
