    …….before taking the P40 up for a superb display……

….but I hardly think the words ‘superb’ and P40 should be in the same sentence. True, it had one of the best roll-rates of any WW2 fighter, but that’s about it. Other than that, it was a flying truck. Not very fast and not very manuverable (other than it’s super roll rate). High level or down in the bushes does not really matter.

I think that my colleagues have already been fighting this corner, but Galdri does seem to be getting confused over the term “Superb Display” and Superb Aircraft”. A “Superb Display” is where the pilot displays the aircraft to the best of its ability. So where does the aircraft type or capability come into this?? So unless Galdri witnessed it, it he couldn’t possibly comment on the quality of the display!

As an aircraft, I personally think that the P40 is a truly wonderful machine. Although the Allison engine only has 1150hp, it performs superbly at ground level, which is where this machine is displayed. It’s a joy to see her being displayed at Duxford….. and it’ll be even better when she is flying in formation with the new Curtiss Hawk 75! 😀

A couple more photos from today. Stephen admiring his new toy before taking the P40 up for a superb display. Also a new R2800 arrived in TFC’s hangar.

I would have thought a Mk19 spitfire for France would have gone to France

I would have thought that it would have gone to France too Digby… However this months copy of Flypaper clearly states that the Spitfire is due to arrive at Duxford.

I can’t shed light on the contents of the containers, I’ll pop along tomorrow and try to have a nosey.

Accept that had the jetwash caused an injury it would not have been funny. I did say amusing, which I think is different to funny. The pilot was on his first solo (no excuse I know). I assume that was you with the pregnent lady? Once the issue of the jetwash became apparent, the majority of those present moved away. My comment about the kids, was that they stayed in place without any effort to move. I appologise if that offended you.

I’m terribly sorry Darren, i really didn’t mean to make you think that you had offended me in any way. 🙂 I just wanted to clarify the situation.

I’m sure that the pilot won’t make the same error of judgement again. They are usually a very safe bunch of guys that operate at Duxford. You are right it was me with the pregnant lady, who is currently 1 week overdue! The pilot opening up the throttle so far caught us completely by surprise – it was a hell of a blast, we made the snap decision that we had more of a chance of staying vertical if we stood our ground than if we tried to waddle away 😮 .

We went to DX on Friday to see if the sound of Merlins would persuade the baby to come out. As the close proximity to a T33 opening up didn’t have that effect then i don’t know what will!!!!! Any suggestions would be gratefully recieved 😉

Apparently the T33 pilot treated a few spectators to an early suntan today.
The T-33 did a 360 degree turn on the apron just to the side of the Vulcan, and scattered a few fence panels and stupid kids who didnt move out of the way. No one was hurt, and it was not a big deal but still quite amusing 😀 .

The T33 actually parked up for a few minutes in the position shown below before opening his engine up. The “Stupid Kids” were at the time stood behind the “Safety Barrier” (does the name give you a clue?) behind which they are supposed to be “Safe” and not in danger of being blasted out of existance by a rooky T33 pilot with no common sense!! Nobody was hurt as you say and Duxford officials conducted a quick rethink of the position of the safety fence. The photo below shows the positioning.

It probably wouldn’t have been so funny if anything had happened to the also present ‘heavily pregnant’ woman who wasn’t capable of running out of the way! I don’t want to over labour the point, but I do think that someone with authority to operate a high performance machine like the T33 should be capble of thinking through his actions before hand.

    Naff!

Now I love special effects and “All American Blowing **** Up” but I have to say I was left disapointed. Maybe i am growing up (Heaven forbid), but it did feel a teensy bit like they were just making a money spinner for the sake of it, not a decent ending to the story. The special effects were superb, but without a great story line….

You notice that they don’t kill vegetables before they boil them, that’s just cruel. At least Animals are put out of their misery before cooking commences, apart from shellfish that is!

Therefore, the rule is Don’t eat Shell fish or Vegetables because it’s cruel

(Apart from Tomato and Coriander, because they are stupid!);)
