I agree that it’s not a new livery as such. Let’s face it, Ryanair being Ryanair would have made a big noticeable change and a big song and dance about it – they are the masters of free publicity – good or bad!!

Yeah – Wingflaps2 and myself went STN/SXB/STN in June and it was also a B738 both ways.

When I went to Berlin in May, I was hoping that it would be a 146 as this used to be a Buzz route, but, alas, it was another bloody B738!!!

    sigh!

Ren – yer a wee star so y’are!! DVD or video, I’m easy. Even audio would be ok and then I can just imagine the pictures!! 😀

We’ll make a point of getting you that pint one day – there’s likely to be another big meet at some point, isn’t there? I’ve seen AMS floating around as a suggestion – which would be nice. We might not get past the World of Wings shop though!

Cheers very much for doing that. I had faith in all things Scottish!!

    Dean.

It was a bomb scare at LPA. I’ve seen the reason for the TFN tragedy reported as terrorism on a website somewhere.

I’ve got to agree with your philosophy of booking the cheapest available on a route. Indeed, this way, Wingflaps2 and myself have seen around 15 cities in Europe this year by doing just that and taking advantage of any special seat sales on the go – regardless of carrier. Makes the travelling abroad a bit more fun knowing that the train to London costs more.

I hope you get to experience Monarch Scheduled one day and see us for yourself.

    All the best,

Monarch have recently been selling seats to Gibraltar from Luton for travel between November and January for £12 each way plus taxes. Including the taxes, the total payable was approx. £50. Shame you missed out. These fares sold out in 5 days for GIB but other routes still have some £12 fares available (i believe inc. AGP). The big difference with GIB is that it is the route most likely to have business travellers. Can you blame an airline for not offering quite so many cheapest fares on a service when we don’t need to? GIB frequencies in the Winter increased last year for Monarch due to demand and now we have a MAN service 3 times a week from November. Compare ZB to BA on London to Gibraltar – I think you will find we are not so expensive after all. It’s all called Revenue Management.

If you compare Monarch’s lowest fares to the other low cost carriers’ that they share routes head-on with, you will find that we are comparable, sometimes cheaper, sometimes more expensive. It all depends on how our flight is filling up. Competitors fares are closely watched by most airlines to make sure that they are able to compete.

I’m going in – shame you seem to have a grudge against Monarch. But I suppose everyone has their fans and their critics. As I have explained to you before, Monarch are both a charter airline and a low-cost scheduled airline. For the last 16 or so years, it has worked rather successfully with this combination. The percentage split of our charter/schedule service is changing in favour of the scheduled service but still we manage to operate two parts of the same business side by side under one roof – just like bmi/bmibaby!

Sorry if I confused you batbay – by mega-Dash I was of course referring to the DHC-8-401Q, on account of it being a mega (sized) Dash! Nice aircraft.

Is it the largest passenger prop flying nowadays, as far as number of seats go?
