OK. Can I just clarify once and for all – We are not NO FRILLS, we’re LOW COST with frills – we still offer a lot of frills that other low cost airlines don’t. These are namely IFE, free newspapers, free pre-bookable seats, free tea and coffee and hot towels. The only thing that has changed is that the meals, snacks (previously unavailable) and the soft drinks and alcoholic drinks are now chargeable extras, as detailed in the PM I sent you the other day, Danairboy. However, there is now a choice of two hot meals or sandwiches or kids meals on board which was the whole reason our customer feedback was in favour of changing from the preset, no choice menu. Also, as pointed out in the PM, it isn’t just the hot meal that the £4 buys you – it includes a salad/starter, bread roll and butter, cheese and biscuits, a desert and an after dinner miniture chocolate. Also, drinks that are purchased still come with the free mini packet of nibbles. That is hardly NO frills now. All this and we are still competitive on price with all the ‘actual’ no-frills boys.
I hope that this now clears things up for you.
Cheers Steve and Duesseldwarf
Yes, I do love Monarch! Just wish they’d start a Monarch Scheduled operation at BHX or EMA for me and give My Old Sh*te(MYT) and bmimaybe(WW) a run for their money!!!
I’d love to see ZB at BHX too – we should have done it years ago – no doubt about that one, in my opinion.
Although I agree that there is going to be a certain element of bootlegging going on, I very much doubt that the airlines are filling the seats with bootleggers alone. I would still say that it would be a fairly small percentage. Just my opinion.

I will try to find out for you tomorrow (Tuesday), Charley.
Do I remember correctly that you are a big fan of GIB? I went there yesterday for a daytrip on ZB from LTN – got to say, I love it there too. 😀

A very good report – glad you enjoyed flying Monarch.
Now, Danairboy, I thought you would fly any airline at all costs if there was to be a meal onboard included in the price? Do I now have to take it that what you really want is a cheap airline with meals thrown in? …….and you tell Eastern Airways to get real? I think you needed a longer holiday……

Danairboy’s back, I see :diablo:
Same sh!t – different thread!
Ren or Andrew – any chance of a “yawn” being added to the smilies? I think it could prove very useful!! 😀

What a pity – sorry to see them go so quickly.

For a long spotting day out – I’d go to MAN for sure, but for a really great day out with a bit of spotting thrown in, go to NCL. Take the Metro, like NCL RULES says, to Monument Station and then explore the town centre and then head straight on down Grey Street (next to Monument Metro) and then straight on down from Grey Street to Dean Street all the way to the River Tyne and the lovely bridges. if you get really adventurous, there’s lots of narrow streets and stairs leading to all kinds of nice places. You’ll be surprised quite how nice Newcastle is.
