Dear sir,
The F-22 can beat the Typhoon on pure kinematics alone. It throws the missile father it turns tighter, its sensors are better. its a better plane even with out stealth. When you post a video of a typhoon doing a J-turn then we can debate the issue, but until then just accept that the Typhoon is a inferior aircraft to the F-22 in every respect. Pirate IRST wont help you much in WVR or when the enemy air craft can manage energy alot better than you.
P.S. I don’t even think all Typhoon variants carry a gun.
You don’t think all Typhoon variants carry a gun? On that comment alone, it shows that you know very little of the Typhoon and you’re only saying just accept that the Typhoon is an inferior aircraft to the F-22? Please! Learn a bit more about it before you judge.
Dear sir,
The F-22 doesn’t need a Irst to kill Typhoons. In fact it doesn’t even need stealth.
The first point you made is at the very best, debatable, we could go on & on about that until the moo-cows come home.
The second point however, well, you said; ‘In fact’, which I’m assuming you really mean; ‘It just will, period!’ since you haven’t explained why it can. Can you explain why you think the F-22 without “stealth” can defeat a Typhoon? It’s quite a claim you’ve just made there, old chap.
I’d be surprised if it could hit M2 with 6 missiles, and without EFTs, it’s going to have pretty short legs, even if it’s theoretically possible.
An Accuracy International L115A3 .338 calibre sniper rifle, on paper, has an “effective range” of just over 1,500 metres, so anything over that is pretty much, pardon the pun, hit or miss. Yet in Afghanistan, I British soldier with the exact same sniper rifle managed to achieve two kills, (or three if you count him taking out a machine gun, too afterwards) agains’t two Taliban fighters at a range of 1.52 miles, roughly 2,446 metres. Which incidentally is a world record. So three nil to us Brits. We can add that to our little list of longest kills in history! 😀
Anyway, I’m using that to say that it’s not impossible achieve that result, it’s just difficult, you need the right conditions to make it work. And the same goes for a Typhoon trying to break Mach 2+ with 6 A/A missiles. It’s not impossible, probably, just difficult.
And about the F-35; I’m not sure why so many people are babbling on about it getting to a certain speed, say Mach 1.6+ or whatever, with a full, internal A/A load and full internal fuel. Yes, maybe it can, but you don’t gain an advantage without sacrificing something else and suffering the consequences later on.
Let me give you an example without going into boring details. Has anyone seen the Formula 1 season this year? Yes? No?…Anyway, I have. And one of the FIA rules for this year is that the F1 cars cannot refuel during a race, hence they have to start with a full tank of fuel and they have to make it last, run out before you actually finish, then you get a DNF, simple.
Now, for about the first half or even the first three quarters of the race, most, if not all of the drivers cannot always max out the car and push it to it’s limits, i.e they have to manage their fuel and keep fatigue of the engine, gearbox etc to a mininum because of the penalty of the weight of fuel it’s carrying. This is so they don’t use up too much of it and have enough for when it really matters near the end of the race and the car is working just dandy. Same goes for fighters. No matter how well designed they are, they still have to be taken care of…
…Add weight to a F1 car, it slows it right down and reduces performance at an alarming rate. Add weight to a Fighter, be it F-35, F-22, Typhoon, Rafale etc, you get the same problem. EVEN if it’s weapons, fuel etc is internal. And internal means? Having more weight, bay doors, hydraulics, computers, wiring, more external and internal body work etc meaning you have to up the power of ones engine(s) which means, higher fuel consumption, greater fatigue on engine(s), airframe etc, ultimately, reducing performance
Like I say; you don’t gain an advantage without sacrificing something else.
F1 cars are the closest thing to aviation and the same rules apply to aeroplanes of all shape and sizes, hence why F1 teams hire people from the likes of BAE, Dassault, Airbus etc etc etc.
Just my two pennies worth.
Ta-Ta
Sheesh!! I’m glad you’re not Chinese, EE, I think you might end up as ‘Disappeared’. 😀
Oops I stand corrected, if I don’t post on here again, then you know whats happened to me. 😀
Anywho, I’m quite looking forward to reading about China’s new fighter, it’s going to be rather interesting I think. 🙂
And we all know how impervious ECM makes one to a HOJ missile. I suppose next you’ll regale us with tales of how flares are going to defeat IIR seekers. Judas, I wonder why I even bother to come to this place anymore. Same retarded arguements year after year.
Retarded arguments, (only one ‘E’ in arguments) yeah, I know what you mean, you should give them up.
you know i dont live far from newcastle :p, i may pop in and have a go 😀
good news though, you should bring her to NEAM for a visit if she has an interest in aircraft
SUNDERLAND? No comment. Kidding. LOL 😀 😉
Yeah pop in, I’ll be the guy half a sleep on a stool in the corner…Pretending to work. 😀
Nah shes not really interested in aeroplanes, she’s more into all things Heavy Metal and likes to see me in great pain, just for the kick of it, you know. Wicked sense of humour, but then again, I would have laughed my **** off too if I was her and sitting next to me while getting quite a big tattoo on my back and being in quite a lot of pain. B***dy killed that did, I’d rather go through the pain of getting my sleeves done again. lol
Looks ruddy good though. Worth going through the pain, and being laughed at but hey-ho, thats life. 😀

EELightning, here is a link with a sniff of a hint of what they plan:
Thanks for the link mrmalaya, quite an interesting read.
Is an AIM-9X or AIM-120 going to care? Didn’t think so. On the other hand the Typhoon would pretty much be fubared given it’s relatively huge RCS.
Why don’t you try and come up with something like, oh I don’t know, how would an AIM-9X or an AIM-120 get through a Typhoons Defensive Aids? Didn’t think so…*sigh*
Pardon my ignorance, but, whats this ‘Bright Adder’…Thingy?
Jackonicko, may I ask. How confident are you that Oman will definitely purchase the Typhoon?
🙂
Out of curiousity, is the gun on the F-35 internal or external? I know on the ‘B’ it’s going to be in a gun-pod, correct?
If you really want to go there, the SRAAM pylons on the Typhoon are an integral part of the airframe and thus always present, attaching a small missile each is not going to change the nature of the comparison much. Unless JDRADM is significantly smaller than a AIM-120C I can’t see how you’d fit more than 6, and if it is substantially smaller I doubt it would be able to match the kinematics of Meteor.
It’s also worth noteing that the SRAAM pylons have defensive aids, too.
According to Beesley the F-35 “almost exactly matches” the F-16, that’s not outturning.
“Almost exactly matches” the F-16? So really, (if they are his words) what he’s saying is; It’s not better than an F-16. Still, whatever, it’s not going to give a Typhoon a run for it’s money in the supersonic performance bit.
Comments I have read imply that Sentinel R1 was always considered an interim capability, to be replaced later by something better.
It simply seems that there will now be a gap (shock, surprise…. NOT) between R1 and that as-yet-to-be-defined “something better”.
Quote from an article posted on the RAF-Further Reductions thread.
“The Sentinel R1 surveillance capability, to be axed by the government after the Afghanistan war, could be replaced through programs like the Scavenger UAV and new active electronically scanned array radars on Typhoon and JSF.”
Whatever that means…
You need to try understand that despite the F-35 being able to carry internal stores; a Eurofighter with 4 semi recessed BVRAAMS and 2 WVRAAMs and a centerline drop tank might well out-maneuver/climb/accelerate, a clean F-16/35. Eurofighter is a step improvement in kinematics over all teen designs – its not an incremental improvement.
To be quite honest with you, I wouldn’t waste the energy in your typing fingers trying to explain that particular topic to him. He claims a Typhoon with 6 A/A missiles and 1 or 2 drop tanks cannot match a clean F-16 or F-35 where performance is concerned, but when I said can a clean F-16 or F-35 match a Typhoon with 6 A/A missiles and 1 or 2 drop tanks at, and above supersonic speeds, well, he had nothing to say about that. No surprise there.
He also seems to think that the UK will “order” a few more F-35’s in 10-20 years time…At $100 million a pop, (it’ll cost even more then) yeah, right!
Mate, in Australia, if the government cut a vital capability, or the such(didn’t deploy reinforcements to afghanistan), and the Air Chief Marshal resigned because he thought it that important to the mission, we would have what ever it was he was requesting, and he would gain even more respect with the troops and public for having spine.
In Australia, we ASK the experts what they need and deliver it
In Britain, it seems you tell them what they need, and then get angry when they cant do it
If only we did that here. Believe me, all ranks in the British Armed Forces do have the balls to stand up what they believe in & say what they think is right, I know this because a lot of past family members have served in the Armed Forces. It’s just that the muppets in the government(s) like to think they know whats better for our Armed Forces. It’s a matter of; our opinion goes, yours doesn’t mean anything, we know better, end of! Now make do with what you’ve got!
The British Armed Forces do speak out, they’re just not heard. Sad fact.
