EELightningWhat is bullsh!t? That the Typhoon has a limited A-G capabilities? No, that’s actually truth. There is nothing certain about those future A-G upgrades (and numbers of Typhoons with such capabilities).
Yes, currently its the truth, I mean, how long has it been in operational service for now? Not very long. Did the F-16, for example, have half decent A/G capabilities? Like hell it didn’t! Aircraft don’t enter operational service with all the gizmos, gadgets, bells and whistles on right away, to think otherwise is just plain silly. Typhoon will be a very ruddy good A/G platform, like it or not theres no getting away from it that it will be and just because some countries are going through some tough economic times doesn’t mean anything for the Typhoon has been cancelled. And if something is cancelled, say some sort of cruise missile for it or whatever, doesn’t mean another country doesn’t want it for their fleet of Typhoons…

Yeah. I’d like to see ANY squeaky-clean F-16 keep up with a Typhoon, say at supersonic+ speeds with its six A/A missile load-which apparantly is classed as clean by Eurofighter-and stay with it, my bets are, it couldn’t.

you will know this book, being a D. Hill fan. Without going into all the details, suffice it to say Sir Frank Williams sent me 5 V.I.P. passes to gain entry into the pits prior to the 1995 G.P at Silverston. I took my Cancer surgeon friend, My Doctor, two very well educated friends who just happened to be Millionairs in their own rights, and my son.I thought it would be a good idea to take the book with me. Upon arrival, we had a cuppa, then went into the Williams pit. Shortly afterwards. D.H. walked into the pit and sat on a workbench, swinging his legs, I said to him, “Damon, would you mind signing your book for me?.” No I bloodywell do. if I sign that I’ll have to sign everything else anyone has???. With that, my friends and I walked next door into the Ferrari pit, and saw Michael Schumacher, sat at a table with various computors on it.We stood some 7 to 10 feet away, and Michael came over to my group and said, “Can I help you with anything?. to which I relayed the D.H. story, Schumacher said, “Do you want me to sign it?. silly question to ask, but I said “Yes please,” He opened the book, and on the page which clearly stated the title, wrote his signature, well up the top of the page. We then went for lunch, and went back into the Williams pit, where D.H. was again on the bench. Much to my embarrasment, one of my Millionair friends said to D.H. “You can stick your signature where the sun don’t shine, taking the book out of my hand, he said, “He, meaning me, has Scumachers signature in YOUR book. Well, you could have heard a pin drop, then suddenly he jumped off the bench and shouted VERY loudly, “Someone get me a pen” a mechanic handed him a pen, but the proverbial hit the fan, when he realised he couldn’t put his signature above Scumachers, as there was not enough room, suffice it to say, he threw all his toys out of his pram, and stalked off in a right mood. I must say thus, I, nor my friends were very impressed by D.H. I can only speak as I find, and I have the book, signatures, and witnesses to prove it.

When I met him in 94 & asked for his steering wheel-not a hopes hell chance of getting it, of course-I even asked him, ckeekily, for his racing helmet, he just said; ‘Well, I could, its mine…Kind of….But they cost A LOT of money and come in short supply and F1 teams are terribly stingy with their cash these days, so sorry I can’t….besides theres a few fat cats around & if they caught me, well…Lets say I need to get along with them & stay in their good books’. had a right laugh about it. happy days for me I’m glad to say.
And….I’m surprised that Micheal was in the Ferrari garage when he signed your book, especially when he drove for Benetton that year.
Some of you might know this already, Damon Hill’s son, Joshua is currently racing in Formula Ford at the moment, he’s doing quite well, if I’m not mistaken this is his second year in Formula Ford and has won his first race, he’s 6th in the championship so for I believe. Hope he can make it to F1.

EELightningI remember that race very well indeed, one of the greatest races of all time IMO. That car Mansell drove was one one, if not the best car they ever produced, possibly the Williams from 96 was a better, obviously faster etc, but that 92 car was a gem.

I’m afraid I’ll have to disagree with you there, I’ve met him twice in person, very lucky to have met the guy, once in 94 and again in 99, we had quite a lenghty chat on both occasions and I was honoured that he remembered me from the first time, it was just a matter of me saying: ‘Alright Damon, hows things?’, then him replying: I’m good thanks, you?…..*a bit of a thinking pause from him*…..’You’re names…Wayne, we met in 94…You were the kid that asked me for a steering wheel from my Willams test car yes?’. And that was it, we had a laugh & chatted some more, I can remember asking him how is Arrows compared to his 99 Jordan, he said it was like driving the Jordan in reverse the whole race.
Personally I thought he was a real nice bloke, kind of bloke you’d have a drink with in a pub, and I must say, when I met him on both occasions, he’s quite interested in what you do, like, when I met him the first time he was asking what I wanted to do for a living etc & I told I’m him I wanted something to do with instruments, guitars etc-which he really found interesting because he’s into them himself-and when we met again he asked if I was still looking into that and I had told him I’m doing an apprentiship as a guitar technician from a local music store, which now is something I do full time, he seemed interested & was asking me about it…Of course talking about guitars mostly.
On a final note about him, this was one of the reasons why I supoorted him through his F1 career, from his first race to last, he’s my all time F1 hero and personally, a lot of people will disagree with me on this, was the best driver and most certainly one of the most underrated drivers of all time, he proved that in 1997 in Hungary when he drove that terrible Arrows, thrashed everyone in a rubbish car, pity he had a problem with it just before the finish, and also, almost getting pole in Jerez with the same car, only to be blocked by that stupid Minardi on the fnal corner. Total legend and he always will be to me.
And of course, like all of us, we all have periods of not being happy, talkative ot just showing their moody side which can come across as being arrogant, selfish etc, its all in us which just makes us human. Maybe you caught him on a down day. Saying that, I’ve heard a lot people say that Sting is one of the nicest guys on earth, when he payed a visit to our shop not so long ago, I thought he was a total d*ck.

Then in that case why not ban Mclaren, Williams, Lotus, Renualt, Force India, Red Bull etc and past give teams such as Jordan, Jaguar etc etc a huge fine…Somehow. Team orders happen all the time, its somethat can’t be controlled and nor will it ever be controlled. At the end of the day, teams and even more so the drivers are there to do one thing, win. If one driver, say Alonso has more points than Massa, which he already had, its logical to get Massa to move aside & let Alonso through because it increases the chances of him winning the championship, two drivers can’t win the same championship so this is why this happens, its a sad fact but its true, its all about winning.
Personally, I would’ve just said; ‘Alonso, if you want to win, you get past him yourself, this is why you’re two times world champion!’ But its not as simple as that, it increases the risk of the drivers taking each other out because on their own, they are incredibly selfish and are there for themselves first, team second.
