Do you guys remember this one?

What was the average length of each leg of the trip? I can imagine some sore butts on that flight.
Why not just combine the KAH and AH-X programs and save a lot of time and money. The attack helo doesn’t make the for best strike platform as was demonstrated in Iraq last year, but with general close air support, armed recon, and so forth in mind then ONE type should be enough. Why complicate the logistic chain with TWO gunship types?
Some more photos from both trips, last May and last November. Have them linked this time as they are LARGE!

Anyway, KMH and KAH are domestically designed and built helicopter programs. AH-X, plans to acquire heavy attack helicopter is still in play. AH-64D being the most likely candidate. A few years ago, AH-64D and Rooivalk were the two contenders remaining for the program. Because of budget restraints, AH-X had been held-off, but I’m sure it will resume in a few years and acquire the 40 Apache helos the Army wants. KMH, KAH, as far as the military is concerned, is a secondary program. I suspect KAH will be a light helo like Mangusta, not an Apache competitor.
Hey KJ, welcome! (same KJlost from Asian Navies?) I have mis-read this report I think, I assumed it was referring to the AH-X program. My bad. So they have down-selected three foreign partners to co-develop their new helos with then?
When was the original J-11 actually proposed?
$30 mil does not sound too expensive, if it is a M2K-5. I am not sure if the figure is accurate.
I suspect that $30 million price tag is a basic flyaway cost. And this is a news report from the mainstream media too don’t forget, they don’t always get it right, and often rely on speculation to get a story out.
Yeh! Right you are Buddy.
Was on a rush to leave
the house. Didn’t double check. All the while, was
thinking of David copperfield. Thanks for the correction.
I like it too, but does it work? We will have to really wait and see when the jury comes out on that one…. 😉
Come now, you make it seem that the only reason that the US products would ever be chosen is because of political reasons.
What platforms are being offered by each company specifically?
I am just speculating. And the gunship helos are the TIGER from Eurocopter, the AH-1Z from Bell, and the A129 Mangusta from Augusta-Westland.
Hi all
Many threads have been made about the Super Hornet’s advantages and disadvantages, but no solid conclusions about how good the jet is.
With that in mind, I’d like to ask what are the real advantages of the SH over the Hornet. And, of course, the real disadvantages against the Hornet. I mean not only in theory, but related into USN’s service.P.S. : I’m not trying to start another “fighting” between Hornet’s fans against Tomcat’s fans, but my intention here is to figure out why the SH has so many people against it, since the plane seems to be good in many aspects.
Thanks
I think you have a better chance of getting the real answers in this forum: Check Six: Fighter Forum. Most of the members are real American aviators of some kind. Just thought you should give it a go.
Would the Grau be retired soon? Old cruisers like these tend to be manpower intensive.
According to my two latest sources she is still active, although to what degree I am not sure.
Ah, but the question is, what about in ten years’ time? 🙂 There is no doubt that aside from the USN presence in the Pacific, the JSDF is the most powerful force there.
Even by 2014, the JMSDF will still be qualitatively superior, and still have a larger number of more capable, better armed and protected, frigates and destroyers. The Japanese MPA force, and their SSK fleet are also formidable, and lets not forget the training either. China and the PLAN still has a LONG way to go before it can field a fleet as good as even that of Japan, let alone the US.
U.S. helicopter builder Bell and two European-based joint ventures — Eurocopter of France and Germany, and Augusta Westland of Britain and Italy — were selected as preferred negotiators among nine bidders, the ministry said.
Kind of surprised AH-64D didn’t make it to the short list, was it considered?(stupid question). If If Eurocopter offer the same offset deal they offered Australia, then the TIGER would be a good chance I think. Will politics win out again and they go with the AH-1Z?
thanks again brother, now to make things clearer…
on the next pic…is the KS-172 that “humongus thing” (sorry ’bout my spelling 😀 ) on the left of the R-77? (left of the pic)
and by the way, seems that can be also fired from the SMT?
thanks again
