Trident, you are just a hater. 😀
But seriously, the An-70 was an incredible technical achievement that became a victim of the era it was born into.
Yes, but not for military tasks. I can understand for a cargo company, or gov relief service, whatever, but not the MOD. The An-124 is what they need (and intend to acquire).
What is the point of it? It will cost disproportionately heavy compared to just getting more An-124s. The money would funnel right into Ukraine instead of Russia, with An-124 production. What can it do that An-124 cannot? Then we get into cost of maintenance, spares, and just plain use. Training just for one aircraft…
The intake is straight and it ain’t stealth
Thank you Einstein.
Sorry there is NO WAY that you could back up the idea Klimov has more advanced technology then RR!
Even in Russia Klimov is behind the curve! What planet are you on?!
Edit:
Ah hang on could be a miss read ie: Klimov is second as read by you?
Well I didn’t say more advanced then GE, I said run for money…then again I think you will find areas where GE is better and areas where RR is better. Certainly their late generation civil engines are very competitive with each other.
Klimov is definitly behind other Russian manufacturers, in military or civilian production.
The An-225 thing better be nonsense. That would be a colossal waste of money.
Given it’ll still be years before the IL-476 assembly line is set up, would it be possible to scrap the program and buy the An-70, similar to how the IL-112V got scrapped in favour of the An-140?
Though the two can co-exist… The An-70 occupies the 45-tonne category while the IL-476 is bigger and is inching more towards the C-17 class with its 60 tonnes. Couldn’t the Russian Air Force buy a ‘hi-lo’ combination of both?
Why years? Il-476 production can start late next year if testing goes well.
do we think the chinese went down the american route (although there was the X35) or have they flown a prototype J20 prior to rolling out such a polished article?
Black matte paint and doctored photos do wonders in making Polished Articles.
The only negative comments I have heard, was from USAF colonel at RedFlag watch it here (watch from 1:07)
As we well know, those comments are nonsense and have many inaccuracies.
I think it is very telling how much the IAF likes and values the MKI if they are ALREADY sinking big money into further advancing it, when it is already more capable than the rest of the IAF inventory.
I can’t see why India have to wait for a number of years ? If Russia is letting India in on the PAK FA why not the Su 35 ?
Or is it a matter of not having enough production facilities ?
That is what I mean. KnAAPO Su-35 production is just starting, and they are going to be loaded with the initial RuAF order for a while.
India would have to wait a number of years at the very least to get Su-35. More sense to try to modernize Su-30 with Irkut (the only new-build order they will be doing is the RuAF one from now on) with the logical stuff, 117C or FM1/FM2, potentially Irbis, modernized cockpit/sensor fusion, MAWS, new OLS, Khibny ECM, etc etc. Or the Indian variants if they so desire.
EDIT: Thats basically Super or whatever its called MKI upgrade isnt it?
Excellent opportunity to nab the whole program and move as much of it as possible to Russia.
