Zelin says many things. I am just translating his actual words. There will probably be more Su-35/30SMs by 2020 than any MiG-35s anyways, so so much for that.

Zelin did not equate the two. The comment was about force structure, MiG-35 forming the “light” aspect, akin to the F-35.

Is it just me or does that ‘Article 101KS’ targetting pod look like a complete rip-off of the Sniper pod?

While I agree that the top curvature is not as important to the actual intake duct as the nacelles clearly seen from the bottom, the top curvature is interesting…why even bother making could have just had it blend into fuselage.

technically MIG-35 is more advanced with several prototypes. and with carrier borne variant that can potentially decrease the fuel cost.

Zhuk-AE has already reached a range of 250km?! This is news to me.

Depends on cost. At this point, Su-35 production might be cheaper per unit than MIG-35, at least as far as domestic orders are concerned.

Hopefully some clarity will be seen @ MAKS on the status of the rumored RuAF order.

Zelin did not actually say the MiG-35 is better, or as good. He said it is analogous to what the lighter F-35 is in the USAF structure.

Ok, some good firm numbers to confirm my predictions of Su-34 orders.
According to Zelin, 5 squadrons, 120 aircraft in total will be purchased by 2020. In 2012, they will get 12 aircraft (hopefully not optimistic). Order through 2013 is 32, 2015 is supposed to be around 70.

I am sorry, an obvious question warranted an obvious response. The IRST installation will have signature reduction compared to Flankers.

the cockpit looks more akin to SMT upgrade than the MIG 29K.

And that makes perfect sense, the UPG is essentially an SMT. K is a different beats altogether.

So those previously acknowledged RCS hotspots like the IRST and that sensor behind the cockpit are here to stay? Looks like no faceting intended…

Maybe they know what they are doing, and they won’t be hotspots…
