Cheeky thing to say.:D I have to say, the Ukrainians are getting sorely shafted here. They spent hundreds of millions of their own money building the cruiser. If Russia needs it(and it does, if it thinks overhauling the Kirovs and the other Slavas is important) then it should pay for it. Telling them to give it away for free and then ‘waiting for an acceptable offer’ is BS.
The orange revolution and Ukraine’s friendship with Europe has been criticised, but they certainly stood to gain more than what they’ve been getting from Russia nowadays. Having a pro-Russian government hasn’t done them much good.
First of all, the Ukranians have not done any work on the ship for years- all it has done is degraded since USSR fell, and is now an outdated rustbucket that would need complete overhaul to make workable. Money is FAR better spent on other projects…the 95% figure is as hilarious as it is misleading. The Russian response is 100% correct, no freebies here.
Second, having a pro-Russian government has been more succesfull than the Oranges. For one gas isn’t being shut off, more favorable prices have been reached on Russian energy deliveries to the nation, joint projects (aviation for example) actually have a chance at succeeding now, etc etc. Dialogue between two nations actually is at a normal level, and Ukraine stands to gain from that- because it is in a poor state indeed.
All the Oranges accomplished was bankrupt the country, make big international debts while accomplishing nothing, bring relationship with bigger and most important neighbor to utter ****…just look how many votes Ushenko got, should tell you a lot.
