You are aware most active seekers do not have the capacity to track independently from the full range, or anywhere close to it? Going radar off right after launch makes your chance of success…small.

    my friend you are right.

so do you prefer one piece or two piece bikinis?

    Depends on the bird.

I agree, which is why for a few years, India had the best Flanker variant as the best Russia could afford were limited upgrades like the SM. but Malaysia has the ultimate Flanker variant now.

this may change when Su-35 enters Russian service.

and yes, flanker looks better than pakfa

Well, I for one am really interested to see more detailed Su-35S performance specs, compared to Su-27 it has better aerodynamics, lighter airframe weight, a serious thrust increase, and TVC….Su-27 already had great kinematics.

Yep, I mean they still add lift, they don’t become automatically worthless with TVC. However Su-35 has weight and airframe refinements (not just due to supposed overweight radar ) over previous Flankers, and Pogo said they were not needed. Keep in mind Su-35 was designed to use TVC from the start, unlike MKI, and adjustments were made with that in mind.

EDIT: Adding in something somewhat obvious, but Su-35 lost weight in relation to Su-27S, not just Su-30 which obviously is heftier than both.

screw MiG-35 or the other MMRCA contestents. use the money to buy more Su-30MKIs. that is unless the IAF refuses to take more Tejas and use the MMRCA to find itself a real mig-21 replacement instead.

For MMRCA, I feel the same, but he is talking about future carrier requirement.

See, over confident self-believing leads to only ignorance, Su-35BM’s canard issue is more related to the initial overweight radar than what you thought stealth. Once Irbis-E’s weight is able to be reduced much then the original planed BARS the additional lift is not required to balance the head.

No, the canards were removed because TVC made them redundant and unnecessary.

the Americans could make a single piece canopy with the F-16.
but the Japanese decided to use a two piece for their F-2, this is because the Japanese intended to ram their aircrafts into birds.

    F-16 canopy isn’t single piece :p

I will eat a radar dish if India doesn’t get source codes for the FGFA radar. India will possibly contribute to the backend of the radar in the Indian verison.

At the end of the day India has more money than Russia and can have more gizmos in their plane. The MKI is a great example for this, as will be the Indian version of the FGFA.

Well, time will tell about radar.

About money, thats not the case. Have you compared defense budgets? Russia’s is much higher, and it is set to be increased significantly in the GOZ 2010-2020. I don’t see India’s increasing at the same pace. Su-30MKI example is irrelevant here, why?
1.) India got it during a time when Russia was in economic ****hole. Military spending was totally inadequate. Not the case anymore, especially with priority project like PAK-Fa.
2.) India got it when it needed to critically re-new its outdated fleet. That was not the case for Russia! It completed a massive re-equipment a decade ago (MiG-29s, Su-27s, MiG-31s) and did not have a critical need for fleet wide replacement. Today, the PAK-FA is critically needed to ensure RuAF does not disappear.

Take those two together- when Su-30MKI was being delivered, and India got a Flanker variant better than anything Russia had, Russia neither had the means of purchasing the plane, nor did it have the need. Today, it has both.

    oh and
3.) With Su-35 right around the corner, at the end of the day Russia did get a better Flanker variant. 😉

Engines are identical I believe, RD-33MK, though it would be nice if they got TVC, it is ready for mounting. Cooling and size wise the AESA is certainly bigger, but as I said the airframe apparently allows for it, the current MiG-35 testbeds were yanked from the MiG-29K production line and converted.

I certainly hope so, for both IAF and Russian Navy. The airframes of the serial MiG-29K and the MiG-35 test-frames are nearly identical, shouldn’t be an issue.

It wants two seats because it will likely use the aircraft in a multirole. Russia intends to use the PAK-FA in conjunction with an eventual PAK-DA…both will be better in their intended roles than a multirole (hence, comprising) variant.

Definitive engine is non-issue, since Russia will get them too (first as well) when they become available. Source codes for radar? I doubt that. Radar has been a 100% Russian endeavor so far (well, all of the PAK-FA has been 100% Russian so far), unless India somehow contributed critical, or any components to it (something I find unlikely, since India’s radar industry offers nothing in terms of ability to Russia), I don’t see Russia transferring everything. It is possible however, a “special relationship” does exist between the two.

Anyways we will see. I think in the end the two variants will be very close, for reasons of economy.

On the other hand IAF requirements to FGFA are stricter and I would expect in some aspects a much better aircraft.

    Whats the basis for this?
I don’t expect it to be better at all.

From all known reports, the MiG-35 was tested with the Zhuk-AE, albeit a smaller one. Eventually, the full size Zhuk-AE is meant to be integrated.

    .

Little tidbit- the larger (1064 element) array has apparently been in testing for some months now, in a MiG-29k/35 airframe.

Except that the SU-30MKI has a Russian radar and the majority of the avionics are indeed Russian. MiG-35 has Zhuk-AE, and minimal if any Israeli avionics.
