Sorry but it is not Ace Eli!! i have a copy of Ace Eli and its a different film. As you say, Ace Eli was made in 1973, my father flew for the missing film, he was killed whilst filming “Von Richtofen and Brown” in 1970. Im sure septic is correct with the”Fanny Hill Meets The Red Baron” just need to try and track a copy down. Anybody got a contact for CR?! i have a picture of him with dad somwhere.

I just looked up the 1971 film “Von Richthofen and Brown” on the internet movie data base, I haven’t seen it but the comments spurred my interest.

In it Brown is portrayed as being a long time foe of Richthofen….whereas most of the accounts I’ve read portray him as just an average pilot who got lucky…and survived his encounter with the Baron.

Interestingly…the story also features Tony Fokker, Udet and Goering.

    Any mini-reviews out there?

check out previous threads on this one,it was covered recently!

    Blue Max,

I believe the 1968 film was called ‘Fanny Hill meets the Red Baron’. As far as I know its not availiable anywhere, although the trailer is availiable on another Fanny Hill title.

At the time the film was considered rather risque, although by todays standards I’m sure its very tame.
    Septic.

Thanks septic, i will check that one out, make sense the family friend saw it in conjunction with a “Steptoe and Son” Film!!

    Don’t know about Ace Eli.

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0069676/

Don’t think “The Big Show” has anything to do with Clostermann’s book, either.

    Certainly wasn’t Zeppelin!

That’s a Stampe, is it not, in the third pic? WW1-style(!) paint scheme with dummy guns strapped on.

No definitly not “Zepperlin”. and yes that it a Stampe with guns on, and flown from the front!

I think it was “Ace Eli and Rodger of the Skies” (1973). Cliff Robertson was in it. I have not seen it and I do not believe it is available on video / DVD

Got Ace elli, it is availabe if you search on ebay, its not that one. it would be about 1969/70.

From the pics it looks to me like it could be the left hand engine cowling, the one you lift to tickle the carb!!

Nice, good to see something a bit different! Love the look of the Merlin, hopefully i’ll be crew on one in the next two years, fingers crossed! Is the Sopwith Triplane also from the ‘Fly boys’ film?

Triplane has been on the Display circuit for some time now, it wasnt used in the recent flyboys film.

It looks as though the Stearman is G-AROY which was previously owned by John Jordan. Wasn’t it used in the filming of a Biggles type film at some point in the mid 80’s?

That is indeed JJ’s 450hp Stearman that was painted up like that for its staring role in the film “Biggles”. Not based on any of the biggles books and featuerd time Travel and a Bell 206 as well!!

    Chris,

I walked over from the pilot’s tent to have a look at the Harvard, but was soon distracted by the three lovely ladies singing. Non-PC comment coming, but what fantastic legs….and I dont mean the Harvard!

Did you get a picture of the legs?!!!
