I Can understand Stans frustration but Stan is opperating these A/C in New Zealand where the rules and regulations are different, with that in mind I dont know the ins and outs of how this change fully effects him.
From a UK point of view it was only a matter of time that this had to happen, the airworthiness requirements that are being implemented on these vintage types is unsustainable, there are very few certified parts available and the requirements are getting harder and harder to comply with. For instance there is no way a Dragon, a Fox or a Moth Minor would be able to be opperated commercialy in the UK, even before the change!!!
If these types are not moved to an LAA Permit the simple truth is that they will not fly at all!!!
From someone who has had to deal with these regulations for many years I can only welcome the change. The next issue is to get a change of the regulations governing the opperation of these A/C on a Permit so they can be used for Flight training!
Did this not crash at Barton killing the owner?
Yes it did, it was not Bob Mitchel however who I think had owned it before, Bob is still alive and well and has his collection of A/C at Sleap Airfield.
Keith is still around he was at a CAA display pilots meeting in 2009 and im sure i seen him somewhere this year but cant think where now.
Neil
Keith was at the HAA event at Hendon in October.
Oh No:eek::eek::eek: I suppose that means the Gladiator is being sold abroard:eek::D
100th aniversary of the formation of the Royal Flying Corps, also the 100th aniversary of the 1st flight of the BE2.
No private owner in their right mind will stay on a CofA, and It will remain to be seen how viable opperating a Tiger Moth commercialy will be!! I suspect as I said earlier that it wont be!
And about time to!! To be honest as far as I can see there are more pros to this than cons. For how much longer you will be able to run a Tiger, chippy or Rapide on a CofA remains to be seen. What now needs to chnge are the rules and reg governing Permit A/C being able to be use for flight training.
I suspect it wont be long before the rest of the Annex 2 A/C migrate to the LAA. With any luck anyway.
Sad news if it is true, Never had any probs getting a fair price out of CFS for Hamilton Standard prop overhauls and always a good job done. Where now will you get many older props O/H’d ???
Well done Stuart, dont forget to put Sywell in your diary for the 19th of August.
Cheers
Matthew
No2 squadron certainly have a celebration planed.
It would be nice to see some sort of flying display at Larkhill/Netheravon/Upavon. If only to see the Be2 flying low over Stonehenge.
There should also be some sort of ceremony in July for the 100th aniversary of the RFC’s first fatal crash just up the road from Stonhenge at Airman,s Cross.
I think plans are in the pipe line to do something in that area, but nothing firm as yet.
I know Stow Maries Aerodrome are planing an event for May Bank holiday weekend 5th- 6th – 7th of May, star attraction will hopefully be Biggles Biplane BE2 replica!
Sywell Airshow on the 19th of August will have a healthy WW1 and RFC presence to mark the aniversary.
Anyone else who may be planing an event, the BE2 is available for displays next season.
Jeez!! Good job there are so many experts on here otherwise TFC and the rest of us wouldnt have a Bl**dy clue would we!!!!!
sad news, I never knew you sir but always enjoyed your posts.
Blue Skies and Rest In Peace, as always thoughts are with those left behind:(
Sad news if there is indeed no show at Rougham next year but Airshows are a risky buisiness and as Yak 11 says they have no obligation to put one on every year. Good news is that Sywell will be on next year on the 19th of August and its stacking up to be a good line up with some old favorites plus some new supprises.
