Is that Rumplemoth one of the two built in 1961 by John Crewsden at Croydon for ‘Lawrence of Arabia’?

Nope, they left both of those in the dessert:diablo:

I, too, am allergic to the sight/sound of Fergal Keane. But I did giggle at his impersonation of The White Knuckle Airlines at Shuttleworth!!!!
Seriously, though, there was enough stuff shown for 3, or 4, additional programs. And I thought (as a KOS) that the CGI was rather good. But, then, I’m only a KOS Met Man!
    Resmoroh

I thought the CGI was terrible, the shot of the A/C flying to France was not only Bad CGI it was of the wrong A/C!!! Dont they know it was a BE2 that was first to arrive in France!!!!:diablo: Yes i know that some 504’s went but they were’t the majority as dipicted in some very bad CGI.
I to thought it was a good programe but not as good as it could have been, i would like to have seen more of the original film and more of those aerial photo’s.

ok, one more time. I’m not digging ANY hole, I dealing with a lack of reading comprehension of other peoples part…pay attention to the highlighted part:

Are we on the same page now?

2 people can easily attach a wing in a day, I know, I’ve done it.
2 people can install an engine, prop & fluids etc & have in running inside of two days, I know, I’ve done it. At Reno, with more people they can do it in mere hours. Hell, 2 people could do it in *one day*… but it would be a long ass day.

Most labour intensive part of doing a Spit/P51 etc would be the instruments, hoses & cables etc. Tin knocking & bashing rivets is gravy.

& “everything at hand” means just that: Fresh Merlin sat in a stand, fresh prop hanging on the wall, spiffy wings with new spars sat on eggcrates & various flappy bits with Mr Dennys finest covering etc.

Like I said: 2 guys, one year…. & like bruce said: ideal world scenario.

Does it happen? doubtful. Could it happen? yes, it could…. Probably need at least a 3 month paid vaction after tho…. preferably the Carib, not Skegness Butlins.. 😉

    Edit:
Just thought of something else: I forget you guys are dealing with the CAA.. not the FAA & Experimental/Restricted category aircraft, so that whole “engineering report” stuff wouldn’t be an issue in the US… But that wouldn’t really alter the “perfect world scenario”.. apart from the fact that it could be possible in the US & 100% impossible in the UK..

I think your the one thats not on the right page!! what you are discribing there is ASSEMBLING one from Items that someone else has allready restored.
That is a completely different question, and i would think if two blokes took a year to do that they want there **** kicking!!

Its not only the bigger war birds that take time. Any restoration takes time, most are not worked on full time with pressure of other projects and the problem of financing the work all coming into play.
As a for instance our BE2 replica restoration has taken 5 years from the pile of parts arriving at the workshop to where we are now in spitting distance of a first flight! 🙂

Bronze and Ali heads are different castings, also the hold down studs are of different lengths, the Ali head ones are longer.

    Hiya

The ignition tubes are the tubes that the ignition leads are held in along the side of the engine. Will try and post a pic of the bits.

Sure you want Ali Heads?? early Gipsy Majors tended to have Bronze heads.
