My understanding was that lack of Form 1’s for the engine’s prevented this A/C from opperating on an AOC, i take it this situation has changed:confused:

Yep, low’n’slow fine to use photo on Biggles website.

I used to visit Sywell fairly frequently in the days I was single and travelled the country extensively!!

In fact my first visit to Sywell was when a friend took me on my first visit to Old Warden about 1963. I remember Mr. Jordan’s Stearman, G-AROY was on the apron and I took a colour slide of it with my Kodak 44a – I wish I could find that slide.

    Roger Smith.

    Was it like this Roger?

Firstly may i say congrats to all involved, she looks stunning and its great to see her back in the air where she belongs:)
To those that can only winge and gripe abour the paint work not being correct, or a letter missing or whatever, may i say, Get a life!!!!
Alot of hard work and money has gone into this Aeroplane and for my money i dont care if it is pink with blue spots as long as it is kept flying.
As for you so called experts, if you look at any Aeroplane that was in service each sqaudron would have there own take on how the markings should be and many would differ from the standard.
Any way congrat again to all involved in a great job, She looks fantastic and she is in the air. long may it continue.
To those who moan lets have a look at your Lancaster when you paint it. :diablo:

can anyone fill me in on the history?

    Hi Sadsack

If you check out http://www.biggles-biplane.com you will get the full SP. But briefly, she was built at Sywell in 1968/69 by my father in conjunction with Brooklands Aviation. She was built for a universal film “Biggles Sweeps The Skies” for which my father had the contract. She was designed by my uncle and due to the short time scales involve (13 weeks) many tiger moth Components were used, although those that were used were heavily modified!!
She was airtested at Sywell in March 69 and then shipped off to the film company. For several reasons the film was never made and she was sold off to private individuals in the USA. She was crashed on the way to Oshkosh in 1977 and the the wreakage was purchased by Cole Palen in 1982.
She was moved to Old Rhinebeck were she was eventually aquired by Bill King.
Myself and Low’n’slow managed to aquire her from Bill two years ago and she is now back home at Sywell under rebuild and will hopefully fly next Spring 🙂
