Amazing!
Must have been 10 tense days evading through Germany. I’m very happy to hear he made it home eventually.
Heroes all.
Sobering indeed!
Within about two weeks, he participated in 5 missions deep inside Germany. Thats around 25 hours flying, a good bit of it over enemy held territory.
I hope he managed to see peace-time and more.
It bugs me to think, that most of the Buchons used, are now just gathering dust in Big Springs Texas.
The film is great though!
Seen the pics before, but its nice to see them again.
Its in pretty good nick considering.
I will post a list of Syrian airports (im not home ATM), then you can find them on GEarth.
I have been looking a few months back, but found no spits (did not actually search inch by inch, but i had a good peek).
I thought it was unusual and never seen that exact caption before, but hey ho – no damage appears to be done.
No one expects the Spanish inquisition!
Comon man!!! What is the year you are living in?? If you want to know about the Syrian Spitfires, do a little Google earth research. If they were there in 1967/68 you would see them there to day, would´t you?? Or were they taken to some hide a-way cave or underground hangar (or hanger like some like to say) in the early eighties?
Go to google earth, Syria, and start looking “Norht of Damascus”:D
I don’t belive they still exists, but having used GEarth quite a lot in looking for aircraft, I’ll have to add; that its not that easy.
If they were spread out so you could recognise them, then GEarth would help you. If stored among scrap-heaps, or piles on top of each other, you will not see them. There are also quite a few very low resolution areas in Syria, nothing the size of a Spitfire could be seen there.
IF they still exist, or parts of them exist, they might be semi-scrapped like the Hinds from Afghanistan and not visible from GEarth.
No matter what, its a topic that someone should investigate. The Spitfire is generally a very well documented aircraft and you can find the full life history of most Spitfires. Adding the 20 Syrian aircrafts final fate, would seem appropriate. Besides, there is a tiny chance that something has survived, even if just some parts.
Ok, that makes some sense, although pagen01 might still need to check it, as he was using two different operative systems.
The MoD work computer is unlikely to follow the microsoft automatic update, as they probably test the updates before releasing on the network. Its also likely that they would update after hours (when the worker drones have gone home).
However, its most likely nothing to worry about and it has 100% nothing to do with this forum.
Thanks Baz, it’s beginning to look like a simple design fact – the Fw 190 couldn’t pull as tight a turn as some other aircraft (notably the 109 and Spitfire). They all have their plusses and minuses.
Thanks, D
Prof. Dr. Tank would not have made such a mistake 😉
If you get the same message on two different OS, then its unlikely its a “true” OS message.
At work you should contact your IT admin, just to clear any mistakes.
Ignore the message at home. If its fake, then it might execute something else when clicking the “OK”. Close the window by using the X in the top right-hand corner.
If its a true message, then it will sort itself out, when you naturally shut down (and later restart) your PC.
Has anyone else here also run into the ‘restart computer now’ caption?
This was the only site I visited yesterday on my MoD computer at work, and I got that caption after a few mins. Lat night I went online with my own computer and visited a few sites, then came to this one and I got the same caption again.
Is that a true windows (or whatever your OS is) message, or a message spam (like the pop-up adds)?
I have not expirenced any.
Does your registration process actually allow using the same “word” for both username and password?
This forum is fairly lucky as regards to spammers. Its well moderated and maybe too “obscure” for the avarage spammer outfit.
Hopefully the admin and moderators will be able to keep it like that.
Yes, it could have been a link.
Has your user database been compromised, since we need to change PW?
Its unlikely that you will get a trojan in a private message. The sender can’t attach anything to it and a pure script will not run in this way.
Maybe you can a trojan at the same time from somewhere else.
Great with input from a pilot with expirence.
Maybe just as well, that you didn’t “meet your fate”.
Hopefully we will hear some more about your FW-190 flying, it would fit the thread well.
