FedaykinThe Mike model is, TBH, obsolete versus todays missiles and lacks HOBS capability to exploit the capabilities of the HMDS. The AIM-9M-8/9 modifications were reportedly fielded back in ’95. IMO, funds permitting the PAF will try to acquire an OTS HOBS missile, because its a key capability the PAF is lacking so far.
Obsolete is a strong term, the 9M is still an excellent missile with strong countermeasure resistance.
FedaykinIs there any link/source/news that PAF may go for IRIS-T? Present in an exhibition does not mean that PAF already integrated it.
As I said earlier the PAF don’t need to integrate it, the Block 52 they have on order should have it as part of their software package.
In effect the integration work was done for the Greeks.
FedaykinIsrael, Germany to discuss missile ships
A German defense delegation will arrive in Israel next month for high-level talks to focus on an Israeli request to purchase two Meko-class missile ships.
The delegation will be led by senior officials from the German Defense Ministry and the German Navy. Talks on the Israeli side will be led by Defense Ministry director-general Pinhas Buchris and Navy commander Vice Admiral Eliezer Marom.
While the Navy has yet to finalize its order, it is working on a concept under which the 2,000-ton ship would be designed by the German company Blohm and Voss, which manufactures the Meko family of warships.
The design would be similar to the existing Israeli Sa’ar 5-class ship but would be slightly larger, to enable it to carry the massive IAI-made Adir radar, capable of providing an extensive over-the-horizon radar view.
The ship will be capable of carrying special forces and larger infantry units as well as midsize vehicles, alongside at least one helicopter. The ship will also be installed with the anti-ship Harpoon Missile, as well as the Barak anti-missile defense system.
Each ship is expected to cost over $300 million, and Israel is hoping that the German government will provide part of the funding, as it has in the past for Israeli submarines.
Germany is currently building two Dolphin-class submarines for Israel, expected to become operational in the next few years.

The thing is I think you blindly accept whatever Boeing and it supporters have to say regardless of what is good about the Airbus product…
Also I have many negative thoughts about Airbus and mismanagement of projects don’t you worry! For example the A400 project has been a major example of aerospace **** ups despite the aircraft being rather good on paper!
In the end I’m not afraid to say that I think the A330 solution is vastly superior to the 767 when it comes to tanking, going on the RAF type selection where the a330 could stay an extra hour on station whilst the 767 could only do 10 more minutes over the VC10 I think thats a fair conclusion…now thats not blind acceptance but cold hard figures!
FedaykinCorrect me if I’m wrong but doesn’t Cavour have an overly large crew and an overly small troop carrying capacity for an LPH and wasn’t final cost about €1.5bn? Even for a full blown Carrier theres not much ship for your money.
I’m convinced we’re looking at a modern centaur sized vessel also perceived cost will destroy the dream for 2 LPHs to retain the 4 flattops, I don’t see much change from £500m (I’d say £400m would be reasonable and accounts for moderate cost hikes but we should’ve learnt by now that moderate is far too liberal a word to be used in the same sentence as cost hikes with regards to defence procurement)
Ocean did cost around £150m in 1995, account for inflation and the figure is not far shy of £250m today however with such a short life the adage “if you buy cheap, you buy twice” seems to be relevant

In many ways Carvour is the 40,000tonish STOVL only option that Thales and BAE Systems had to submit along with CATOBAR during the bidding process. What is forgotten with all the hybrid talk is all the MOD did was select the CATOBAR design without the catapult and arrester gear.

No on the the F16,when new missiles get integrated the software is updated for release on new and old blocks.
IRIS-T uses the Sidewinder rail and harness umbilical to the fighter, if software is updated the F16 should understand what its talking to and make use of all modes offered by missile.
Another missile the ASRAAM can in theory can be fired off any aircraft wired for Sidewinder, if the software isn’t updated for Sidewinder then the missile pretends to be a Sidewinder.

No only Mike model but to be fair that is a very good missile, in combination with a HMD a worthy combination for the Block 52 F16 and a threat not to be taken lightly in the merge!
Anyway the Pakistan airforce is more interested in the capability that AMRAAM will deliver closing a capability gap that developed in respect of India.
Its a very exciting period for the PAF! AMRAAM, F16 Block 52, JF17, AEW and Tankers.

A new design would be sensible learning from our experience of Ocean and benefiting from new developments in ship design and construction.
Limited Command and Control facilities considering that Albion and Bulwark are fitted out for that but plenty of bunk space and maybe a hospital section seem logical so something a bit bigger then Ocean maybe around 30 thousand tons would be good.
Of course if its that big might as well fit a Ski jump so it can act as a secondary deck for the F35 in an emergency.

It did not matter which offering was superior in the 9 KPPs to which the entries where judged if that entry did not meet all 9 KPPs. Only if both entries met the all the KPPs was there to be any further evaluation. They where meant to be tie breakers. The fact is the EADS entry miss at least two of the KPPs according to the GAO. They made no judgement on the Boeing entry which according to the selection team met all KPPs. After the GAO report technically the Air Force could have stopped right there and selected the Boeing entry on the basis of it meeting all the KPPs and the EADs entry not meeting all the KPPs. In the interest of fairness this was not done and I find it amusing that people like you are finding fault with the process since it clearly worked in your favor.
This entire fiasco has morphed from an off the shelf, low cost KC-135 replacement to an entirely new procurement fiasco all to keep two players in the bidding. The fact is that every study done by the Air Force indicated a need for a KC-135 replacement and not something else. Frankly if they wanted a new type of logistical support aircraft the Air Force should have done like they did in the old days and go through a development process and once the winner is decided fund an entirely new aircraft built for purpose. If they want a KC-135 replacement then the 767 fits the bill to a t.
The Airbus did meet the KPP’s, how is pointing that out Trollish behaviour?
