Doesn’t the Lysander look stunning?! What a treat for Goodwood and all of us on here!
Indeed it does!
Got a chance to see it at Goodwood this evening, although time stopped me from having a really good close up look. 🙁

Has this mod been done with any other restored Spits?
It has Ant.
Basically the same modification used for the MK.IX trainer, fitting tanks (about 25/27 Imp gallons per side from memory depending on the installation) in the redundant cannon bays.
MH434 had it done under Tim Davies ownership, whilst ML417 had the mod also, plus PL344 had it done whilst under ARC’s care.
(I seem to recall this mod was done under rebuilt for Charles Church, but removed when PPS did some work on the airframe when Kermit Weeks acquired it)
Also PL965 had this mod, as the original leading edge fuel tanks were not fitted during the rebuild.
And a few of the MK.XIV’s restored by Historic Flying in the 90’s have had it done as well if – SM832 & NH799 I recall correctly.

Memorial Flight Lancaster heading and holding to the south, followed by the Hurricane & Spitfire to join up and hold for their display at Dunsfold.
Hopefully they will be back again after their display when they head for Carfest at Overton.

Dunsfold is in two weeks time. 😉
Yeah, I know, but not sure when they hold their press day, so thought it might have possibly been to do with that!
It was inbound to Lydd, operating base for Eastbourne this weekend
.
Thanks!
I found out where it was going after I posted, via the Strikemaster Display Teams Facebook page!

BAC Strikemaster G-SOAF heading in the direction of Shoreham at about 15:20, but might have been going to Dunsfold, as I note it is due to display at this years Wings & Wheels.

Very sad news as always, and with the recent passing of Tom Neil and Geoffrey Wellum, it makes you realise how important it has been that their lives have caught the public’s eye over the last few years.
As Oxcart says as regards the new Spitfire documentary, they made it just in time!

Oh no.
And just a few days after Tom Neil.
Makes the release of the Spitfire documentary quite apt and more poignant, and reminds us that sadly these guys and gals will not be around forever, no matter how tough and invincible they appeared to be.

After watching some of the 2016 show live via PlanesTV, the then new regulations post Shoreham seemed to make it not worth the bother!
I seem to recall that ‘display’ by Sally B was pretty much a circuit, and the Warbird displays seemed to be pushed even further away from the crowd than other airshows with the new and revised display lines.
And I have heard similar comments to HP111 as regard to the public ‘being an inconvenience’ which doesn’t bode well.
I think you have to ask yourself if it’s worth going (£42/£37 concessions) if things haven’t changed?
Cheers
Paul
Very nice shots Simon.
Glad you had a nice day, and thanks for posting!
