Toss of the coin today ! just might have been a bad choice ! Grrrrrrr ..
😀
Now you know how the Captain of a Cricket team feels!
I was surprised that anything flew today, as the murk seemed pretty widespread – I struggled to see Blackdown and the rest of the local area from my window most of the day.
Anyway, at least you managed to photograph something flying!

As for the recent prang to the German example , and to echo many other comments, the pilot did an excellent job in getting it down quickly and with little damage. ( Just wish some people on some forums would stop putting silly comments about these aircraft being “aerobatted” , or flown too harshly ).
I couldn’t agree more.
The pilot did a textbook forced landing with minimal damage to the airframe.
I too thought some of the comments on other forums regarding “these types of aircraft” (Don’t most people consider them replicas anyway?) not being “aerobatted” etc. were a load of B******s! (As if it’s going to be the cause an engine failiure).
At least with an aerobatic display, you have plenty of speed and therefore energy, so if you do have something like an engine problem, you have a better chance of making a successful forced landing.
A low energy, low level “gentle curving” display like some want, isn’t the best if you have such a problem.

I seem to recall reading in one of the magazines that it was due over here for a visit, and it’s first stop would be Humberside.

Not over here, but PV202 flying over Chester-Le-Street just now during Sky Sports Ashes coverage.
Still haven’t got Volume 1 yet :o, but I suppose I’ll have to give in and get them both now Volume 2 is out.
Just one minor thing (pedant mode on) regarding the website main homepage.
The sound played is from a P-51 and not a Spitfire! (pedant mode off) 😉

Sad news, and sorry to hear this.
I guess it’s fair to say that thanks to his input and dedication, we have all been very lucky to see an authentic airworthy early MK I in the flesh (something we could have only dreamed of many years ago), and also learn about the challenges of restoring it to exactly how it would have been in early 1940.

That’s interesting, considering that they nearly all came out of the same shop.
That maybe the case, but I seem to recall John Romain saying a similar thing about Spitfire restorations in a FL video from a few years back.
Although not as ‘anti’ as many on here, I just tend to tune out his ramblings these days.
Me too.
I found this year, I was able to, as you say, ‘tune out’, but much more easily this than other years. Maybe it’s the fact that there were no speakers in close proximity to the front of the TFC enclosure! 😀

Didn’t TD248 have a red Merlin, too?
It sure did, but doesn’t anymore.
Seems to be the ‘Hurricane Season’ as far as for the availability of examples that are currently for sale.
I guess if you have the cash, then take your pick!
Whilst the Hurricane might not have the performance and handling characteristics of say the Spitfire or Mustang, it seems a lot of pilots both past and present have a lot of affection for it. Most say despite its faults, it has great charm.
From reading various pilots reports on it, it would seem it’s handling and flying qualities do seem to differ more than other types between different builds and restorations.
And on that note, I thought I heard Mr Chabbert at this years Legends say that ex-Wallis example was deemed the nicest flying of all the current Hurricanes, by those that had flown other examples.

Shame to see Princess Elizabeth being taken apart again – wont be long before they start taking SNAFU apart for shipment to the US too. Both Razorbacks gone within a few days of each other :/
Oh.
I didn’t realise SNAFU was heading to the U.S.!
Shame if that’s so.

Merlin engined Spitfire heading roughly in the direction of Goodwood at around 13.30.
Didn’t see it clearly, but looks like it could have been PV202.

The video linked to here is indeed not Flying Legends in 1993, but the Classic Fighter show that same year — the last in that form. The OFMC held a one-off Classic Jet and Fighter Display at Duxford in 1996.
Thanks for the clarification JMVR.
I did wonder after I posted the link if it was actually the last Classic Fighters show, given that the T-33 was present. 😮
And it looked a bit warm for a May bank holiday!
