There’s an odd quote about Buchons from my desktop calendar:
“The marvellous film Battle of Britain brought together Rolls-Royce-powered Spitfires in cinematic conflict with Rolls-Royce-powered Messerschmitts! Here’s a trivia question for you: Did the Spanish reverse the offset in the Messerschmitt’s vertical fin to compensate for the opposite rotation of the Rolls?”
I always thought the DB engine rotated the same way as the Merlin??
Your are of course correct Daz.
I think the Hispano Suiza that powered the early Buchons turned the opposite way to the DB & Merlin hence the fin offset.
However, you would have thought that they would have fixed this on the Merlin powered machines!
I wonder though if this is one of those stories that is more myth than fact?

Land Girls was repeated on C4 yesterday. Not a bad film considering at the time I fancied the pants off Anna Friel AND Rachel Weisz 😀
The Spitfire sequence is quite good. Which airframe and which pilot please?
MH434.
Not sure who the pilot of the Spit was, as the flim credits Mark Hanna (and Paul Bonhomme as the pilot of Black 6) I think, but I remember reading on the OFMC website at the time and it said it was Rolf Meum who flew 434 & Charlie Brown Black 6!

Yeah but Steve, you once gave me all sorts of dates and promises about ‘Flight Of The Blenheim’ appearing on DVD…and it never did!!!
Lancman,
But it did! 😉
I must say.I’, looking forward to the Black 6 DVD as well as the Shuttleworth one. 🙂

I do, but I’m not sure if it will make it to the final cut! There’s lots of material to choose from.
Paul, no minicams I’m afraid, Shuttleworth don’t generally allow them.
Damm shame. 🙁
I wonder why, as they used to.
A few of the old Aviation Action tiltes had minicam footage from Shuttleworth planes and I believe they did when you filmed ‘Battle For The Skies’! 🙂
Btw, do you have any plans to release ‘Spitfire Sound & Vision which you were working on yonks ago?
Cheers
Paul
Thanks for the heads up Steve.
Looks like I’ll have to have this DVD! 🙂
Is there any mini cam stuff included?
Cheers

Fluffy,
I seem to recall that there were a couple of threads here a while back with some good close up colour shots of the artwork.
Actually, I think I saved them on my PC for reference! 😉
I can’t find the exact thread, but did find this one which has a fairly close colour shot:

And thanks for the info about the new ‘Majors’.
I too thought it was a bit soon for AB910 to be having one!
[EDIT] Found this one too. No close ups, but it seems Daz might well get what he asked for! 🙂

Rocky,
I don’t know of one site that has this kind of data, but often a lengthy search can yield some of it.
As someone who dabbles in a bit of flight modelling for FS9, I know that this kind of thing can be hard to find! However, I have got some pretty good stuff that has these kind of things for different WWII aircraft but, as always, I’am always on the lookout for more! 😉
http://www.spitfireperformance.com/spittest.html
This ain’t too bad for all stuff on Spitfires/Seafires. It also has some good info on the Tempest, Typhoon & Mustang too.

Some good stuff on the 109 series which takes on the findings of the above site!
http://mitglied.lycos.de/luftwaffe1/index2.html?
Contains some good wartime reports in both English & German.
If I can think of anymore, I’ll post them.
As for books, you might like to checkout the excellent book ‘America’s Hundred Thousand’ by Francis H.Dean. Well worth the search and price as it contains all the kind of stuff you are after for all of Americas top production fighters of WWII.

I really doubt they heard it in Holland…
According to a news report I heard earlier, it measured 2.2 on the Richter scale.
Now, our household never heard a thing (well, we were fast asleep), but someone who lives in Midhurst (about 10 or so miles south) e-mailed the BBC and said they heard it there! And someone also said they heard it in Worthing.
Anyway, one things for sure, we like many could see the massive effect of the smoke.
Here’s a few shots my dad took whilst out on an afternoon walk not far from us.
First two from Hurt hill, Haslemere looking at the blast site

And looking at the scene of the blast from the Gibbet at Hindhead

And finally, from the Gibbet, but looking towards Dorking
