There is about 48 hour s worthwhile and affordable video available so how are we going to fill 24/7 with this? Apart from that…………..

It doesn’t need to be a 24/7 channel.

It think the general feeling is that we’d all rather have fewer hours of broadcasting showing new & higher quality content than more hours with the same old stuff!

I agree with both Steve & Setter.

There are lots of possibilities that haven’t been exploited by channels dealing in specialist subjects, and I’m sure Steve’s experience will find these gaps and make the channel worthwhile.

I always thought his monthly news video (Flying Machines) was a great idea all those years ago. Sadly it didn’t take off (no pun intended), and I think part of the problem was that it was ahead of its time. I mean, nowadays with the Internet the way it is, it would be cheaper to produce and more accessible to everyone if it were done as a download. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Btw, I remember a few years ago on one of the obscure channels on SKY Digital, Flypast used to do a short video magazine that lasted about ten minutes. It was good idea with some good content, but sadly not the best produced or presented of programmes. And being stuck on this channel meant that you’d only find it by chance as I did! I donโ€™t remember seeing any mention of it in FP magazine so it was a bit of waste in my opinion.

As if any of it is going to happen with the amount of money that is generated.

    There are a lot of repeats . . .

Because no one is paying any money.

I am not holding my breath.

Nice to see the trains though

(for the uninitiated, this may have been a joke)

    Ah yes, funding!

That’s a good point. But I’m sure the Discovery network could have put more time & effort into looking at new programmes – not just other peoples stuff but at producing their own. They’ve done a few now and again, but I don’t recall them asking for feedback & ideas from their viewers regarding how the channel could be improved. ๐Ÿ™

It is of course going to cost a lot of money to set up a new channel. If you want to go the Sky Digital route, you’ll have a rather large annual fee to pay for an EPG slot which would make a big hole in your buget for starters! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

But I’m sure with a sound business plan and a look at why some of the other new channels went Tango Uniform alarmingly quickly, I’m sure it could be made to pay.

But I think if done properly, there is huge potential to cater for all types of aviation. Janie’s airshow & event calendar is an excellent idea as is the live NOTAM’s, which could use the interactive capabilities that most digital channels have these days, althought having just seen the charges for an interactive service, it might be too expensive. ๐Ÿ™

    Just my 2 pence worth.

Well, first up, good luck in your venture Steve.

I’ve enjoyed all your work on aviation programmes over the last ten years or so and know that they are some of the best out there.

I think it might be the end for Discovery Wings in the U.K soon. ๐Ÿ™ I believe they shutdown the Amercian channel and it looks like they might well be about to do the same with the U.K version. Whilst they’ve increased the hours it is on air, it’s still the same old stuff we’ve seen time and time again. And now they are putting out train programmes too!

I personally would like to see the Airshow World programmes return as they always were nice to watch. Also I’d like top see more of the documentries/stories of aircraft like you were involved in, such as ‘A Spitfires Story’ & ‘Flight Of A Blenheim’.

I also think maybe the monthly news video you started all those years ago might work very well on a dedicated aviation channel.

I’m sure others will have ideas too, and I’m sure many of us would like to help out in anyway we can. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Indeed, a nice aircraft that makes a lovely sound.

Talking of lovely sounds, just had the BBMF fly over. ๐Ÿ™‚

O.K not quite overhead, but to the east of us (heading for Guildford) en route from Goodwood to Conningsby I assume.

Sorry to go off topic, but what’s happening with ‘184 these days?

Maybe it’s being left for while so Mr Sheen can come and test new products on it. ๐Ÿ˜€

When I was at this years Legends, I took a look around the OFMC hanger, and noticed that there were a couple of people getting to sit in TE184’s cockpit.

I wondered if they were charging for the privilege, but couldn’t see any sign of a queue or someone to take money so figured they were guests of OFMC.

Looks like I might have been wrong! ๐Ÿ™

    Now thats just cheating ๐Ÿ™‚

I know, but as I originally thought it was 415 after seeing the pic I thought… ๐Ÿ˜€

As you say though, we’ve probably all got it wrong! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Mark, I figured this was may have been part of the reason. ๐Ÿ˜‰

O.k, I’ll have a stab, ex COEGA, MK297, pre BoB movie perhaps?

Other than that, no idea where, when and why the reg is OO-ARY!

    Interesting!

I’d have gone for one of the COGEA ones too, but as Mike J points out, they were registered A-F.

I’ve just checked on a site that lists Belgian registered aircraft (all the GOGEA Spits are listed) but the only ones listed under ARY are a Renard 32 & a Piper PA.14!

    Sounds Familiar….

    Rob,

Sorry to hear about your problems at Duxford today but I’m glad you posted here as I think it’s an issue that should be addressed by display organisers.

As someone who has a 91-year-old grandad who fought in WWII, we often like to take him to airshows with us.

Now, he’s not to bad for a person of his age and likes to walk and do as much as he can, but sadly he does have terrible trouble with rheumatism and stiffness/pain in his hips and legs and finds that he has to sit down for long periods if necessary. He also finds it a problem walking long distances.

The shows at Old Warden are not a problem, as you can stay with the car and still watch the display plus the distances to walk to toilets etc are not too much of a problem for him.

However, if we were to take him to a show at a site the size of Duxford that involves plenty of walking long distances, and nowhere for him to sit, unless we buy Gold passes or are a member of a society that has a marquee and seating for it’s members (which we aren’t), he’s stuffed! ๐Ÿ˜ก

We took him to Flying Legends last year but had bought Gold passes so it was not a problem, but this year we left it a bit late on deciding to go so made the decision not to take him, on the grounds that we knew we’d have the same problems as you had today buying ‘standard’ priced tickets. Btw, we also took him to the D-Day show at nearby Dunsfold earlier this year and stupidly didn’t think about there not being any were for him to sit and that there would be miles for him (it was bad enough for people half his age) to walk!

We did ask around if there was a chair for him to borrow, but sadly no one could come up with one. As luck would have it, we found out about a veterans (all the services!) enclosure that had been set up for them and their families, which also had nearby parking. ๐Ÿ™‚ Sadly though, this was not publicised on the site selling the tickets and the bumph that came with them, so I wonder how many more vets missed out on this? ๐Ÿ™

We felt though that this was a nice gesture (there was also a special entry price of ยฃ15 which included a member of their family – again this was something that wasn’t mentioned when I bought the tickets) so maybe it’s about time other display organisers did something like this for the people they are honouring.

If not, I think they should at least provide some free seating so those that need a sit down can, and at the same time, watch the display.

    Cheers

It was the AAIB report on the Biggin Invader crash that he was looking for, not the Mossie.

Ooops, appears I misread it! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

In that case, no wonder he didn’t find it. ๐Ÿ˜‰

    Thread now edited!

Maybe it’s about time the AAIB put up the older reports too!

Thanks for that Sea Fury Fan.

I’ve only ever seen the SHF A-26 routines on video, but they always looked spirited but safely flown to me.

And it’s good to know that you were able to talk to the pilot afterwards and not only gain insight into his routine but raise points that were of concern to you and often other enthusiasts that sometimes get raised on these forums. Hopefully it will make them realise that the pilots of these historic machines do in fact know about the particular quirks of the type they are flying and fly only manouevers which are suited to it’s envelope.

    Cheers

    Paul
