Many thanks for the photos Yak.
And congrats to all invovled in putting another Hurricane where it belongs. 🙂
Nothing on the 3pm Anglia news but I’ll keep an eye on tonights programme. 😉

Just saw a piece about it on Anglia news.
Don’t know how long ago it was filmed, but they showed some footage of it on the ground with most of the panels, spinner etc off.
Said it would take place later today weather permitting.

Well I agree that a detailed ‘History’ type book on the Hurricane would be very nice. So would a new updated editon of ‘From Bleriot To Spitfire’! 🙂
I wouldn’t mind Ray Hanna’s autobiography or Steven Grey’s for that matter!
Oh yes, A Spitfire book from Mr Arnold would be very nice too! 😀

…but Jeffrey Quill’s favourite Spitfire was the …
Mark12
MKVIII with standard tips! 🙂
I guess for the ‘delight to fly’ factor then the earlier Mk’s (I,II & V -maybe the VIII, IX/XVI & XI!) will always win but what I really want to know is if this MKV, IX or what ever flys better/is nicer than that MKV, IX or whatever if you see what I mean. 😉
Daz, I too recall Mark Hanna mentioning in that video that they could be ” a little more aggressive with her” after the rebuild (which makes sense I guess as everything’s been done) and he also said that it stalled at a ridiculously low 54 kts after the rebuild! He also said that the throttle wasn’t so smooth which would is no suprise “after 50 years of take off’s & landings” behind it prior to the rebuild!
Janie thanks for that info! Must have been something to fly a Spit! 😀

Paul
No probs Alan.
Anyway, you should thank Janie as it looks like she beat me to it! 😮

Alan, Try here:

Of course our very own Airbedane used to fly it when it was based here.

Glad you all enjoyed the video! 🙂
Hope your DA allows you to go that low!
Nice job
Yep, sure does macky.
My DA examiner was Ray Hanna! 😀

Well, that’s pretty much on the mark Kye.
Whilst I don’t have any pilots reports to hand, everybody who’s flown one will tell you that the stall really is quite benign and gives you plenty of warning in the form of a well defined buffet. Even on the later MK’s (VIII,IX & XIV etc) it was the same story – and even during an acclerated one.
I have a DVD with some incockpit footage of AR501 being stalled prior to landing at OW (flown by a famous aviator who sometime graces us with his presence on this forum!) and you can see how well behaved it is. I guess you could still drop a wing if determined, but I think you’d have to have the stick right back in your stomach and ignore all the signs that the aircraft is about to depart.
Anyway, I’ll let those who have been fortunate enough to fly one give their opinions! 😮

Umm…
Interesting thread!
One thing I did notice in the ‘suspect’ photo on a second look was the shape of the leading edge of the fin. It seems to be missing the classic ‘curve’ (apparent in both of Dan’s pictures) where it joins the fuselage. Signs of a touchup/doctoring perhaps?
I wonder if this could this have been doctored pre Paintshop & Photoshop days?
Cheers
Paul
Nope.
Don’t recall seeing that one before!

Ummm, according to a recent post on the JF forum, it said they were on target for release on the 12th of December!
Hopefully we’ll get an answer on the exact date soon!

Here’s the link to some Fm’s I made with the Workbook for four of the default FS9 planes:

Checkout the readme inside.

Try doing a search on the net or at Flightism.com for a utility called MDLC or MDL Converter.
I think the current version is 0.85.
You can use it to convert different FS sim models to work in other ones.
I haven’t tried doing an FS2004 to FS2002 one yet but judging from what I’ve seen it works!
It appears that many developers both freeware and payware have stopped or ara going to stop producing FS2002 models in favour of FS2004.

No probs Deano.
Good luck with the workbook!
I too am dissapointed with the way the default aircraft behave and handle when it’s clear they could be a hell of a lot better. 🙁
MS employ aeronautical engineers to get the FM’s correct but you wouldn’t have thought so when the default ones turnout as poor as they do.
I think they should employ Jerry Beckwith and use the workbook for future versions of FS as he seems to know a fair bit about the FM side of FS. 😉
As I said earlier, in days gone by I was always under the impression that the FM engine in the MS sims was at fault but soon learnt it wasn’t and feel that people are missing out if they have poor FM’s and blame the sim for it.
Whilst there are always going to be limitations with a PC based sim, I think the consensus is that for a sub £50 or $ piece of software, FS is quite remarkable in both it’s Graphics & FM engine. 🙂
Btw, checkout the aircraft pages on the Mudpond site as there are some nice new ones for all three sims with FM’s made with the workbook.
